With these challenges you may want to check out blackout shades….Leaving the drapes as more decorative than functional

I have blackout curtains in one room and because they are heavy, (which is often the case with blackouts) they’re a bit harder to fully open. Yours being on grommets will be easier, I think. But I like btydrvn’s suggestion of using a blackout shade on window only. Curtains for prettiness.

I've got a hanging book shelves on one side of a window. They look great and are handy. So you may choose to have part of the open curtain covering the window to make that work (like in the "don't" picture). Just a note: I've had problems when trying to use the curtain rod "to the max" longest length - not sturdy. I've had to push them back in a couple inches shorter than the maximum length listed on the packaging.

Extending an adjustable rod to the fullest extent doesn't offer enough srability. Simple terms: The rod will dip in the middle even with a support. I would size up on the rod.

I am helping a cousin with this nursery and she had the rod and HAS new wood blinds already so the shade is not an option but I am getting a new longer rod!

Bookshalves in a kids room need to be where kids can reach the books and wall shelves are just asking for an accident , Do some fun declas on the wall the 88" rod is fine but againd drapes not a good idea in a childs space since they will oull on them so be preaperd to changet o a blind with no strings once the baby starts crawling. If a child gets used to sleeping without blackout drapes there is no harm in that. so why not just the wood blinds .

There are lots of other things to do with a blank wall…paint it …a pretty color?…add colorful hand painted flowers or decals?…stripes (horizontal or vertical)…
I agree drapes can be problematic safety wise….another option to make the room more baby/ toddler friendly is to invest in some big,soft baskets to fill with toys, books that will be at baby level….i do believe more colorful surroundings are more stimulating for babies,toddlers…but don’t forget a comfortable chair for you for feeding the baby…reading to him or her…just relaxing while you watch the baby roll around and play ….and even an extra chair for visitors..
