Difficult Days For Us

last modified: 4 years ago

I haven’t been posting much for the last few months. I limit it to one thread which is really a little community of very supportive friends.

I’m widening my net.

There are so many of you who are so thoughtful. You are kind hearted people.

There are so many things happening right now. Worrisome, difficult and heartbreaking things.

My mom. Some of you may remember I was her caregiver. Helped her since heart surgery in 2005 till 2021. She needed less help once she recuperated back then, but as the years passed, she needed more help. The last several years were rough. Last year went down to Maryland to live with sister in a big beautiful in the country

She is dying. My husband, brother and I went last week. Hoping we’d make it in time! Haven’t heard yet this morning. It’s incomprehensible! My mother is receiving hospice care. I’ve seen this before with my father when I was 20, in 1982. Today is day 12.

I would have gone back down, but I can’t…

My oldest daughter, mother of my beautiful grandson is pregnant, but had a really rough first 12 weeks. While my son-in-law was away for a week for the army, on Monday she received a call. Test results. Not what you want to hear. While her Grandma is on her deathbed.

This, while they are packing up, because they have to move! This weekend! Which is now.

My heart is breaking. My sister lives too far away to go back and forth. I wish we could be with my Mom at this moment. I don’t understand. I feel horrible.

This is not even all if it….. since the turn of the year, it’s been one thing after another. These are just the biggest ones.

Please pray for my family. That my Mom feels at peace and feels our love even though we are far.

Especially pray that the baby is ok and my daughter who is so full of anxiety

Positive thoughts and energy. Whatever it is you can do

Wow, I am so sorry for all you are going through right now. It seems that your mom is getting the care that she needs at this point and for that I would be thankful. I just hope everything will go well for your daughter and that she is getting all the help that she needs as well. I will keep you all in my thoughts and remember to take care of yourself.

I'm so sorry that your family is struggling!

Take good care of yourself even if you are feeling very badly. Eat well and nap if you can't sleep through the night. Lots of hugging with your family. Those things work for me, hopefully for you too.

Big hugs over the airwaves to you and your family!

I am so sorry, Michele. Your mother knows in her very bones how much you love her. She has been a handful, I know, but even a difficult person knows when she is loved and cared for. Time on your deathbed is not the same as time normally from what I have seen, between the drugs and the decline life is compressed and dialated all together. Your mother knows you are with her, if you ask me.

As for your daughter, health problems with children are the worst. I pray for your daughter, your whole family, to have the best outcome. It is so hard to cope with illness and uncertainty, know you are in my prayers. Trust in God's love to carry you through the harshness of this time.

    Je t'embrasse très fort!

Praying for many blessings for you and your family, Michele. I'm so sorry you and your family are going through a very bad time right now, and I hope things will get better soon. I didn't get to be with my mother when she passed and I know how you're feeling. There are times when we are faced with very difficult things, and I hope that time for you is over very soon.

I believe the same as Zalco, God will carry you through this storm, and the sun will shine brightly in your life again.

I believe you are already doing all you can. Your mother is in a good place. Your daughter will receive the care she needs, and she has the support of her husband and *you*.

I hope you can breathe and becalm yourself -- for your own sake, and to be able to give -- and take -- solace within your family. One day, one hour at a time, we survive the perils and go forward. Wishing you peace.

I'm so sorry to learn of the difficulties you and your family have been facing. Try not to stress too much about whether you can make it in time to be with your mother, as wanting to be there and being able to, are not always both possible. But Hospice workers are angels, and I know that even in your absence, she will pass in a very loving and peaceful environment. Your mother may not actually be aware of who is there, but will just feel comforted. My thoughts and prayers for all the things you have mentioned, are being sent to you and your family at this time,

My sister held the phone to my Mom’s ear yesterday….finally She seems reluctant and considered it only after the weekend hospice nurse suggested it. Whether she can hear or not doesn‘t matter. My sister seems reluctant

Even my brother seems to not get it.

The major move happened over the weekend They still have a few little things there…. have till 31st..

Daughter’s appointment is today Thankfully son-in-law had arranged to have today for the move Army isn’t flexible about things (national guard)

They also don’t consider wife’s grandmother’s death to be eligible for day off there

Hopefully it will work out for a Friday wake (he’ll come after work) Saturday funeral?

I don’t spend my days weeping and wailing, but I cried once, wondering if she understands (probably not) why we can’t all be there by her side, holding her hand and comforting her.

I started crying a second time as I was sitting on the floor watching my husband play with our 20 month old grandson. The profound love we have for him, made me think of the love felt for my mother. All my cousins in France are waiting with us My two lifetime friends love her dearly Her old neighbors…

That sweet child came to give me a hug! He never sees me cry. I couldn’t get over that

((Michele)) - your grandson showed you that love goes on. It never ends. I think your mother knows that too. Tough times ... but keep hanging in ....

Sending healing thoughts your DD's way. Glad your daughter has her DH for support.

Too bad family isn't defined by the people instead of by the National guard.

I'm glad that you were able to say words to your mother. I'm sure she knows that you are full of love for her and I'm sure she understands that it is difficult for you. She's a mother and understands her children have to do what they need to do.

Michele, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. From my own experience, many dying people can still hear and understand very well, so you could tell her on the phone whatever on your mind and your mom would understand, even though she may not be able to reply. Hearing your voice would give her great comfort and peace of mind. I’m glad you talked with her. Hope y’all stay strong and healthy to get through this difficult time. It shall pass.

    My Mom died yesterday.

The plan was another call after the hospice visit…

    I feel numb. Relieved too.

I still have some calls I didn’t get to make yesterday. I wanted to tell my three kids first. Of course, when my D1 came here with son-in-law after appointment, we let them talk first.

(In a nutshell, next week, more testing. Somewhat relieved, but not really)

Thought I’d sleep better I’ve been awake since 2ish… I just need to adjust

Condolences from me as well, Michele. It's so hard saying goodbye to one's mother. After my mom passed, I felt untethered from the world - like a boat that has lost an anchor. I was fortunate to be in the room and was the one holding the phone to her ear so family far away could say last goodbyes. Both my sisters were unable to be there and suffered greatly because of that. It's a bit sad your sister showed reluctance to do so; it's so important.

Wishing you and your family peace and solace.

Michele, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Pal is right about your mom being able to hear you. Very ill, fading people can sense others around them and I’m sure it is comforting. I wish we could carry some of your burden and heartache. I hope sharing with us and hearing our support and love helps comfort you. You are strong and you will see this overwhelming distress ebb. It is enormous, for sure.
