The landscaper was not careful in removing these azaleas; but I figure if I can save even half of them it would be worth it. I sought advice from local nurseries and others and I was given conflicting advice.
One expert said to cut them back within 12 inches of the root ball, amend the soil, and hope for the best. Another person said to just stick them in the ground and hope for the best.
I was going to do a mix of both: dig nice size holes, compost, azalea food, and cut them back after the blooms are gone.
My question is how much to cut them back and what else can I do to try to save them besides watering well.
