last modified: 4 years ago

I am open to any ideas and appreicate your feedback. I have Silestone Counters in Calacatta Gold and my orginal plan was to go up the wall with this quarts too, however I am having seconds thoughts. My kitchen cupboards are white oak rift cut and my floors are white oak natural color rift cut. We live on a lake in Ontario and would like to give this house a cottage/classic house feel too. It's a large home 3000 square feet with a large kitchen -open area. We haven't finsihed the window yet ( we went commerial brown - in-line fiberglass windows throught out the house - love them! We are waiting until we decide on the backslash. I also need to purchase runners, rugs, new furniture,

for this area too. I realize it's not easy to give advice on the exact backsplash from pictures, however any advice would be greatly appreciated.

IMO first get rid of all the Edison bulbs they skew colors all the time change all the bulbs in all the fixtures to LEDs 4000K right now . I see grays in the FR and very warm eoods I think maybe a nice glass subway tile with matching grout would be nice for the backsplash I do not like mixing real stone with fake so no stone IMO . Definately not the textured ones at all. I do think the style you are going for is a bit of an oxymoron cottage one thing formal quite another IMO there is no need to name a style the space looks nice just a bit sterile so art and some color are the next step. BTW when choosing lighting in most cases it is best to light the space not the ceiling.

I would do something with a little pattern to it

I rather like the stone and think it ties in with the fireplace.

Patricia Colwell Consulting, thank you for your input on my lights and tile choices. The LED lights are clear or are they white bulbs? I was trying to go for a simple look with my light fixtures...

I'm interested in your opinion on the quarts back splash? or do you recommend the glass tiles over that?

barncatz - I was questioning the quarts backspash because of family members thinking it was too much of the same counterspace and I should go with something different... I'm not sure what I should do, I'm not very good at making decisions :-)

@Nancy Zimmerman, I'm often not a big fan of quartz used as backsplash but I think you were exactly right about that choice for your kitchen. Since all your choices are fantastic, stay the course.

    • Your cabinets, counter and fixtures are elegant, clean and simple. Introducing another pattern in addition to your counter pattern, much less another pattern, or a texture, plus a grout line pattern, is the opposite feel. It doesn't mean it can't work. It means you've overshadowed your cabinets and introduced a competing focal point to both your counter and your cabinets.
    • You have an open area and plenty to look at already.
    • Although I agree the stone and rough tiles "ties in" with the fireplace, so do the cabinets and your quartz.

I guess I just agree with this blog post. Hope you get more feedback - I seem to be the outlier. And I hope you share your finished space!

If you decide to go with white oak cabinetry in your next kitchen remodel, we think the best part about this selection is that you really don’t need much else. Keep it simple, the wood is the star of the show. For a wow factor, pair the cabinetry with white Calacatta marble countertops, or for more functionality, a white Quartzite. Try bringing your countertop up the wall.

I love kitchens with fewer materials and finishes so i would lean toward the slab backsplash with the quartz or an uber simple tile - its a lovely serene space, less is more for sure
