Catastrophising again, H. 😉 That barely counts as damage and is definitely not ’destroyed’. Prune the broken stems off flush. Then forget about it and stop worrying. It’ll be fine.

if this is all the damage you found from a full roof redo.. you ought to be doing the happy dance.. not fretting over potential catastrophe ...

Well I pruned off whatever I could but most of the broken limbs are right against the trunk so it will be impossible to make another cut, even with a small saw. I also noticed another huge limb half broken from the trunk, not sure if it’s a good idea to cut that off but if I do then half my azalea will be lost. Aesthetically it will look terrible but not sure if leaving a half broken limb on is a good idea or not.

It will very likely resprout. Like their rhododendron cousins, azaleas have latent buds just under the bark all along their stems. When hard pruned (for whatever reason) these will push out into growth. One of the reasons it is often suggested to hard prune leggy azaleas and rhodies.

FWIW, I have had large tree limbs crash down in winter, smashing well established rhodies. One last year took out half of one with no ill effect at all other than the plant is a bit misshapen. but currently pushing out new growth where it was injured.

Really no big deal.
