Hosta Second Picture 2022

Ok it is that time to show progress. I have none. My order for hostas has not arrived yet but I did get the plastic off the top. I need to get in there with my weed wacker and go to town. So go back to your spots and shoot us a shot.

My son is going to raise the greenhouses back up this weekend.

An orchid in bloom.

my biggest..Diamond Lake spent the winter in my shed..came out on April 10th..had a few nice days outside..then yesterday I moved the pots to the garage..we had a storm and hail was possible..we have cold nights coming so I'm holding off moving back out..

I never knew the Jetsons "lived" in 2062!!!..I watched the Jetsons and the Flintstones..loved both 💕..

I bet I could tell the "owl" was a fake 😂..

    Really, I cannot complain.

I feel that there is no progress. Well, driveway is snow free. Spring has been cold. We had more and more snow. I wish now spring really arrives.

It's nice to see your green hosta gardens. I have to wait quite a bit.

What cheerful pics from Paula, utog & Ann! Saija we will get there!

Part of my garden. Too wet to finish cutting back what I did not get done in the fall.

A blurry pic of a small section of a Primula. It is the only bloomer. No Hosta up but in other sections Daylily foliage is coming along well.

    Nothing yet....too wet and gross

Saija and peren..your time is coming!..looking at the pics of your gardens today I thought.."that's a big garden"..and both of you have evergreens..nice..

We hoot at owls and we also hoot back to each other - "Who cooks for you?", "Who cooks for you too?". Things are pipping all over the place here as much as I try to keep them down by leaving leaves on the ground. I guess its time for clean up this weekend. Does anyone just leave their leaves in the beds? Pics to follow (after breakfast).

steve..I live with owls..I heard them this morning!..that's why I joked that I could tell a fake hoot..

l leave leaves..maybe in some gardens they look messy..but in my garden they fit in..they don't bother me..I think of them as mulch..a soil amendment..insulation from spring freezes..I do remove branches..and smooth out or grab and crumple up bigger clumps..

Didn't DARE do a posting with more than one picture, based on my experiences over the past couple of months. Here's what we faced a couple of days before the picture in the post above.

We're getting things ready for a plant sale at one of the local gardening clubs, happens tomorrow, the first one in 3 years, can't wait!

We shoveled this part because it gets bogged down and very muddy with the dogs .

It has melted about 3 feet so far!,

Honey Bells stems and my Atlantis is snow free!

    One more month to go,,,,,maybe.

Happy Easter to my Hosta Gang!

Steve, I leave the leaves in place until there are long pips that are beginning to unfurl. I even keep 2 full barrels of leaves in reserve in case of late frosts.

I unfortunately have nothing to show. Nothing is really pipping yet. Been very cold at night,28 F last night. Not planning to uncover anything. Only real growth is my dicentra specticablis. It’s up about 3 inches. I have asked Hornbakers to delay my order a couple of weeks because of the cold night temps.

Nothing new to show here that can be seen in pictures but there are several that are starting to show pips. I did remove the leaves from some of the pots.

A different angle than the first pic but same pots, several have small pips.

I have Bleeding Hearts and Columbine starting good.

Speaking of owls, I have the Great Horned Owls nesting about 50 yards behind my hosta garden. We really enjoy watching them, now out of their nest.

    Cool owl pictures

still cold enough for some light flurries that melt quickly.

i let everything lay in fall for insulation, clean up right before pipping.

    maybe next weekend

We have Stone Owls here. I was lucky enough to snag this pic of one while capturing this bed for this thread.

The pots were moved back into the shed until Wednesday. Hopefully, our last freezing night of the Spring. 20 days before the average. Then the cleanup and planting begin in earnest. But I thought the same thing last year.

I've got an early one here - Curly Fries or Pineapple Juice, I'm confused about the ID.

This bed gets full morning sun until the leaf canopy fills in. Peonies, Heuchera and a few Hosta pips. The JMs are nearly invisible. The hill really drops off at the far end and to the left.

hosta_maker..I don't hurry to clean 😂..a good thing I don't..I woke up to a little snow..

    steve..good shot of your Stone Owl..I have one..mine doesn't hoot much 😜..

I think of Curly Fries as small..is that right?..to me my Pineapple Upside Down Cake looks like your hosta..if Pineapple Juice is similar that's my guess..my PUDC is an early one..

    What great Owl pictures!

Not too much is going on here. Grass is a little greener, hellebores an daffodils are starting to bloom. Hostas are mainly still sleeping which is good since the last two days we were getting snow.

Yay, just in week much snow has gone :)

yay!!..Saija can see some bare ground 🙂..

Saija, your plants are so lucky for the snow to saturate their roots gently over the winter months. I am looking forward to seeing your plants this summer in your photos.

Yay is right! My snow left the way yours did - pretty much all in a week.

    Shadow how about you?

I didn't post a first picture, but I'll consider this my second.

Most of my hostas are leafed out well, as you can see. A couple are just starting to open up -- then there is this Sea Monster which is not looking well (voles perhaps?):

peren- thanks for asking and yes it is melting but I still have about 2 feet of snow in the front. But we have not been getting a lot of rain. How about every body else?

My snow should be gone in about 2 weeks. Crossing my fingers.
