Eustacia Vye - 2nd Year

I like this better than Olivia Rose Austin. It has the beauty to match Olivia's, it has strong fragrance where Olivia has none, and it blooms better in the heat. It doesn't throw out octopus canes in the summer like Olivia does. On top of that, the blooms also self-clean. It's just a better rose for my area.

I love your many buds and well-formed blooms. You did a fantastic job taking care of your roses. How many gallons of soil does your pot hold? Thank you.

I'm thinking about ordering Austin roses (grafted on Dr.Huey) for next year, and I usually buy bagged soil when they are on sale in late fall at 1/2 price. Like "Beyond Peat" potting soil was reduced down to $2 per bag in the fall (normal price is $8 per bag at Walmart).

Stunning!! I was worried that this rose would not handle heat or sun well, but now I am inspired to buy it. I have Olivia and it has not done well for me. (I'm in 8b, Portland, OR and our summers are hot!)

Hoang Ton, My opinion still stands about this exquisite rose, and the voles kindly removed my Olivia in Dec 2022. But her place is now taken by a second Rouge Royale, so I'm still short a space for the lovely Eustacia. I'll figure it out. I love the shapes your rose plants grow into. You do an excellent job of pruning and the results show it. As far as Gabriel Oak goes, he's pretty, but I like my Young Lycidas better for color and bloom structure. Diane

Diane, i replaced both of my ORA standards with the The Poet’s Wife and Desdemona standards last year and I think i had made the right decision.

I planted ORA in my East facing bed that gets morning light and my EV south facing that gets the hotter part of the sun. based on these comments it looks like I put them in the right places. neither has bloomed yet but I’m curious how they will do.

Okay, a tale of two Eustacia Vye's... Question, what is this rose supposed to look like and smell like? I planted a bareroot directly from DA that tanked, but people said such good things about this rose, that I tried again, this time with two potted plants from different nurseries. Both have official DA tags, but so far, they seem really different? Could one of them be a different variety or do growing conditions make that much of a difference? Here are photos of blooms from the two plants taken this morning. Plant 1 (the lighter colored), in morning sun, in a pot, is giving me open yellow/pink blooms and a mild/medium gentle fruity rose fragrance, a soap-maker's delight. The second one, which is under a shrub and gets afternoon sun, where it is super damp right now, is giving me perfectly cupped blooms with a hint of violet, and it has that sort of strong knock-out fruity, old rose smell, like some of the older Austins, the sort of "gourmand" fragrance you could almost eat. They are both cool, so I am not really complaining but any thoughts on if they are the same variety, and if not, what?
