And what a selection of gorgeous old roses! Some of my favs. I am really looking forward to seeing your photos! Lady Banks, R des Violettes and Duchesse de Brabant are all healthy in my blackspot prone garden in the PNW. Carol

Keep us posted on how the new additions fare. My Monsieur Tillier and Rein de Violettes are completely free of powdery mildew in my SoCal garden so would be curious to know if the are blackspot free there. We don’t get blackspot here but lots of powdery mildew on many of my roses this year.

Oh, wow! That is an incredible Lady Banks!! Thank you for posting that pic. Mine (yellow and white doubles) are much smaller because they get heavily pruned to stay in bounds, but they are budding up, too. Carol

Pictures and onservations from todays lunchtime stroll. I was working from home for 2 weeks and missed Lady Banks peak, but Thérèse Bugnet is looking gorgrous. I love her fragrance.

Foxi Pavements is also blooming and gorgeous.

Winter Sunset is gorgeous. The blooms are huge, but I did not detect any fragrance.

the next one is Pretty Lady, but not THAT Pretty Lady which caused me to be very confused by the color.

Speaking of defoliation, Souvenir de St. Anne was looking rough. Well, the foliage was. the roses are beautiful.

Buff Beauty is just starting.

Summer Romance was also just starting. I was eager to smell it, but was a bit disappointed. It just smelled sweet to me.

Ebb Tide has spotty foliage already. The foliage was never clean last summer, but the rose sure is pretty.

Mrs. Anthony Waterer was lovely, but I had to practically standnon my head to take a picture of the drooping rose.

@chris209 (LI, NY Z7a), i thoughtbit was s hosta, but zoomed in and it is clearly not. hmmm… I’ll have to revsit next week and see if i can ID it.

Idk what all that craziness is in the back, like several waves made of many branches, but I think I'm going to run away and start my life over as a forest witch and my witch hut is going to look just like that crazy stick sculpture thing. I love it more than anything else, BUT the roses are really beautiful.

So great to see an elaborate public garden which is not just endless rows of roses in straight lines! The design enhances the beauty of the roses, and they are not all crammed together in beds. Whoever designed it knew what they were doing, and of course having plenty of space helps too.

The variegated plant ("not a hosta") is likely one of the variegated Brunnera macrophylla.

@chris209 (LI, NY Z7a), I checked out the variagated plant and it is a comfrey.

My favorite thing about botanicsl gardens is the labeling on things.

Thank you so much for posting - I love this garden but haven’t been in a while. Will have to take my mother next time I’m there. She used to have a beautiful garden in south central PA, including roses, but gave it up when she moved to an apt in DC. She had/loved Buff Beauty and will be into seeing it.
