I went ahead to plant the root in ground. Keep my fingers cross that it will be all right.

It has been 2 months and the little tree peony is hanging there. it has reached about 9 inches and grown a branch but has stopped here. sometimes the leaves look a bit droopy and i have kept watering it almost daily. probably need to continue doing it through the summer. Do you think anything I can do more to help it survive the first year? Thanks and happy gardening!

Daily watering seems a bit much unless you have really porous soil. It probably won't grow any more this year. Just try to keep it healthy while the roots get established.

Thanks again Steve for your advice. I will try to cut down watering a little. It just sometimes worries me seeing the little plant has its leaves withering a bit especially in the afternoon. I will keep shading it with some tree branches and hope it quietly growing its roots.
