Flower question, I’d rather ask here

These are some kind of impatient i think, but what variety are they.

i picked them up this morning even though it is too cold to put out yet but the prices were good so i will keep them in house for awhile.

i do not know if they need full sun or some shade so i would like to know there name so i can google their care.

Those are regular impatiens. They are a shade loving plant. Morning sun should be fine.

ETA: Lyban I can't make out the leaves well enough in the pictures (I moved to my desk top LOL), but they look like regular impatiens. Look at impatiens, new guinea impatiens and sunpatiens. New Guinea variety has leaves that are a bit longer and a bit more pointed. I'm not sure about sunpatiens though - they look very much like the regular variety.

I googled: Though Sunpatiens are a hybrid of Impatiens, the primary difference among the two is their light requirements. Sunpatiens are a sun-loving variety that thrives in the sun, whereas impatiens grow best in shady areas. Sunpatiens also have a dark green shade of leaves whereas the Impatiens have a lighter shade of them. (so hard to tell between those two!) No tags of any kind?

Well, heck, I'll defer to Tina, and delete my guess!

It's pretty difficult to tell the difference between sunpatiens and impatiens. Either one still prefers shade but sunpatiens can take more sun. I wouldn't let either kind sit in the sun at a high temp where they could fry, but a little sun when it isn't the hottest part of the day will be ok either way. On the plus side, if you have just shade, shade and more shade, they are going to be your best flower friend as far as survival . . .

Those look like regular impatiens to me too. I plant Sunpatients, the compact variety every year and they have a much larger leaf than regular. There is a creeping variety, but I think they would have the same larger leaves.

@olychick I'm no expert! I've had new guinea and regular impatiens. I've not tried the sunpatiens though. They will take full sun!

@l pinkmountain SunPatiens love growing in the full sun during the hottest parts of summer and bloom from the time they are planted in late April or May through fall. (per MSU Extension/Gary Bachman)

    I'm good at googling LOL.

Hey Trapped! I'm a fellow Okie. :) I grow the regular impatiens and I believe that's what the plants are. They thrive in early morning sun.

To me, they look like Impatiens walleriana, and could be any cultivar of such.

I don’t think they’re Sunpatiens, so keeping them in shade is a sure bet.

As a sidenote, for anyone who wants to try Sunpatiens — I grow them in full on Texas sun, sporadic watering, and next to decorative (hot) pebbles … they thrive. That is one tough plant.

Well, I stand corrected. I've never put Sunpatiens to that level of a test, so I just sort of generally summarized what would be bad for most plants. I have had great success with sunpatiens in less stressful conditions, they are quite resilient regardless. But so are ordinary impatiens, or at least that has been my experience. But not in the hot rocky TX sun, that I can't comment on . . . ironically I have the opposite problems, damp shade.

Pink, I was shocked the first year I had them. I was expecting them to fry within a week! I‘m glad for this thread, reminded me to start looking for them.

Regular impatiens never do well for me, even in full shade. I wish they did, they’re so pretty.

Thank you ladies, i think you are right that these are regular impatients that do bedst in shade.

i did buy them for my sunny deck but i have lots of shade around so i will take some out of their containers and plant in my shadier spots

these are just from my grocery store but so reasonably priced compared to the garden centers that i grabbed them even though unlabelled.

I see sunPatiens planted all the time in the center flower bed in the entrances to neighborhoods , so surrounded by concrete and they don't miss a beat even in our 100 degree plus weather. These are some I had last year at the end of the summer.

Trapped, those look so beautiful. I’m trying to find pics of mine, I think they’re on my old iPad.

Lyban, I love the color of yours, too!
