dig one up.. and see whats going on with the roots..

severe tangled or circling roots could possibly dwarf a plant in the extreme...

snap a pic or two.. and show us.. before and after ...

take the dug plant to a tree and beat it against the tree... or scrape the roots on the pavement.. and then replant it ...

very old school old witch remedy.. physically threaten a plant and it will trigger release of growth hormones due to the threat.. you know.. you cant make this stuff up.. lol ...

replant it.. water it in well and let us know ..

never hurts to tell us .. in every post.. where you are.. big city name. in this case.. we can make sure you are growing a zone appropriate plant ...

I mean is anyone else having the same experience. It's appropriate for the zone I am in. Do you talk to everyone who asks a question like they just started gardening five minutes ago? Thanks for the advice.

Violetsnapdragon, mine is deeply prepared soil that tends to stay a bit moist, the thing grows somewhat overly too well and splays and spreads apart, not attractive then. My summers are all over the place from rainy wet to hot bone dry.

Ken--must give credit where credit is due: Dug them up, abused the roots and they took off this year. Thanks! FrozeBudd--now I know what you mean by splaying. They went from tight little clumps to splay, untamed somewhat bigger clumps. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but I do love the color.
