Your gorgeous ceiling has such strong horizon lines, the backsplash should run the same direction.

IMO if you want stacked at all no fancy thing behind the range one is contemporary and the other very almosr Tuscan. IMO tyour kitchen looks quite modern so a stack subway tile either vertical or horizontal would be nice but please no accent tile behind the range at all.

No stove mosaic accent - that feature has gone 15 years ago already. I don’t think vertical stacked tile goes with the look of your kitchen - awesome ceiling by the way.

Also, the distance from your counters to the bottom of the upper cabinets appears to be less than the standard 18” distance. A vertical stacked backsplash needs more vertical space than you have, so it is not the right look either aesthetically or proportionately.

True! It is right at 18” but a little covered by the bottom of the upper cabinets. I love the look but I’d rather have a look that goes with this kitchen. Thank you!

I love the 3rd picture that @lucky998877 shared. That looks like it would be perfect for your space. Your kitchen is beautiful - especially that ceiling! On a side note, I don't think your cabinets are oak. The grain looks very minimal in your picture, possibly maple.

The picture from lucky 998877 that has the wood ceiling is a great vibe for your kitchen! The ceiling is such a focal point and beautiful that everything else needs to play second fiddle to that. In the picture, notice that the lights, countertop and backsplash are all the same neutral. There’s some texture with the swoop in the countertop and your choice is similar to the photo. I like their backsplash also…..some texture but still very neutral. I would not do a vertical stack in the backsplash because of the movement in your ceiling.

I like subway tiles running horizontally with the counters...traditionally. Any other tile can go any direction you want...vertical, herringbone, stacked, bricked....

I’m a fan of narrow vertical tiles for your kitchen.

Love the first image that lucky shared. I'd do a horizontal stacked backsplash. Would you be open to another countertop? For your space, I think a solid white or maybe one with a little bit of terrazo type texture would look good. Let your gorgeous wood be the star and keep other things more simple. Do you currently have three different countertop materials? What is the piece that has the second sink?

I hope you look into island lighting first. The tiles aren't Tuscan and such?

Yes we are changing all the countertops to something like a white quartz. There are currently two different countertop colors with the middle island being a speckled sparkly black color- time to go. I like the photos you found with lighting examples. Definitely on the list of updates!

I looked at your saved ideabooks, which mostly aren't mid-century or modern. Do you have a stone fp, etc...? We haven't seen your house, and so a new direction for you!?

The ideabooks are mostly old but yes there is a stone fireplace. This house has a mix of styles.

Kitchen looks out to great room, most furniture is changing soon too.

I would try to use something other than a marble look quartz ... it has been so overused these last 10 years and I don't think the best choice for your house.
