I am excited for you! That is a nice size, I tried to order it but was told it would not be ready until July.

Peren, I purchased it at a local nursery, so perhaps you can check the garden centers near you?

I know very little about hostas; I stood back and surveyed all the offerings at the nursery and chose a few of the bluest ones; then I read the tags and picked the one that would get the largest. Plus, I really like the ruffled edges on the leaves…can’t wait to see it grow!

Yes the blue plus ruffles is really dramatic and whimsical all at the same time!

I don't have this one but in my experience it takes 5 years or more for a large hosta to reach its size potential.

Thank you all for your comments!!! The space I have for it is mostly shade, but it does get some dappled sunlight during parts of the day. I hope that’s okay for blue hostas!

That's a beauty! I will have to be on the lookout for one. It looks like a big version of Waterslide. My Waterslide is on year 2 and I have to say it has become a favorite.

Annette, I just looked up Waterslide - so lovely and definitely a more managable size than the one I purchased!!

The hosta inventory at local nurseries is very interesting…the different nurseries all seem to have the popular hostas like Patriot, but then each individual nursery also has its own selection of unique hostas. I wonder how they decide which ones to sell. I had originally wanted Abiqua Drinking Gourd (love those cupped leaves!) but couldn’t find it, so decided to try this one instead.

Will you be putting WBMW with Liberty? They would look smashing together.

Peren.all, no, I have different spots in my gardens for them (Liberty will be in a bit more dappled sun - I bought two of them to flank a garden arch) but I agree, they would look awfully nice together!!

I have intense deer pressure, so I spray my plants with Bobbex. I’m somewhat worried that the spray will affect the look of the blue hosta. It’s a full-time job trying to keep the deer away from my gardens!

Thanks for info. I agree that Liberty is gorgeous! I love any plants with bright yellow in the shady areas - makes it look sunny!

Check out this thread for some Liberty beauty, I became entranced and, although I’m not a hosta collector, I always kept Liberty in mind as a definite ”want”.

I use Bobbex (horrible herds of deer) as well and the blues are fine with it. There is a point when it is too hot to spray, 83-85? At that point it could discolour them. I can't recall but it is on the label. I spray early morning/late evening when it is terribly hot.

Ha, I was confused for a minute -- I recently purchased Voices in the Wind, which is not blue at all, but when I opened the thread that's the hosta I had in mind.

I have Waterslide, and it is one of my favorites too.

Dancing With Dragons is another wavy-edged blue. I've only had mine for a year but it seems to be doing well so far.

I have dancing with dragons and love it. im wondering if wind beneath my wings is simlar just alot larger.

I bought Wi d Beneath My Wings this year, but it’s nowhere near that size yet. Another nice one with ruffled edges, is Neptune. Excuse the earwig damage, my hostas got hit this year.

@mlobaito_nnyzn4, I hesitate to post a pic - my hosta bed is looking so ratty, but here she is anyway, on the left side of this photo. Very pretty, about 3ft in diameter right now. It’s still blue, but it gets speckled when I spray it with deer repellent.

Thank you, its so hard to get a feel for a plant from vender photos much better to see them in a garden setting. your garden is beautiful.

Also mlobaito, you can always look up hostas in the Hosta Library. They have pictures, but if you click on the database link at the top left, that will take you to the page with more information. Size, vein pairs, etc.
