With three young kids, there will be dings and scratches in the vanity. Keep the wood where many dings will never show up. Scratches on wood can be easily touched up. White paint is not so forgiving.

The current shower doors will not show drips. If you change to clear doors, you can train each little kid to squeegee the doors and wipe off any drips with a towel. IME, this could take several years. A good compromise would be "rain" glass doors which don't show drips nearly as much as clear glass.

I suggest a new coat of light blue paint on the walls and a nonskid bath mat.

The almond shower surround is very limiting. If you're going to keep that you might as well keep the floor which will be a money saver. Just see if you can do a deep clean on the grout. Look for a wood vanity - I don't think white is going to work with the almond, but look for one with drawers which will provide better storage than what you have. Can you fit a recessed medicine cabinet and get rid of the cabinet over the toilet? I can't see the light fixture, but unless that's newer you will also want to replace that. Do you like the color green? I would paint the walls a light cream or try a shade of green if you want a color. Paint the brown ceiling trim and the ceiling something lighter too unless you want to go for a rustic look. Don't use a bright white - it still has to work with the almond.

I remember having a 80s beige bathroom! It turned out to be really fantastic. I love that you consider your children with design in mind. My kids (and their friends) all grew up around good design and they get it.

To upgrade that color, consider the following:

1) Paint the ceiling and that brown trim Benjamin Moore Decorators White. It's a bright white and will lighten up the room tremendously

2) Remove the cabinet over the toilet altogether and install two stacked recessed medicine cabinets on wall across from sink/toilet. See Home Depot link below.

3) Install a decorative tile the entire wall over the sink (See below)

4) Install pendant lights over the sink. (See below)

5) Consider using medium grey paint for the walls and charcoal towels and accessories

6) Have a new vanity custom made (See below). With little kids, have your cabinetmaker make the bottom drawer pull out to use as a step stool for the kids. If you don't want to have a vanity made, change the counter top to marble and replace the faucet and vanity hardware.

7) Remove the shower door and install a 3'-0" wide stationary obscure glass from the floor to the ceiling. If that's not an option with kids, let me do some research.

You have the right idea, my dear! The suggestion to have your flooring and grout steam cleaned is a good one. A good place to start! remove the heavy medicine chest AND the mirror and light. You can do better. There are lots of great, inexpensive light fixtures there, from modern to traditional, that will add good overhead light to your bathroom. Same with the mirror. Nice big mirrors with wooden or painted frames. The suggestion to paint your walls a light cream to pick up the lightest tone in your marbled bass surround is great. Think neutral. Your color can come in with towels, etc. Consider refinishing, restaining your vanity. The top and sink look fine. You could change out your bathroom hardware to black, but you do have your shower doors to deal with. Match those with hooks on the wall, not towel bars. One for each boy. Ask their favorite colors and buy them towels in that color so they know which one is THEIRS. (And you know which is which son’s when they end up on the floor!). Use that color range to have them help YOU choose art for the wall across from the toilet. Something fun. Make the bathroom their space for now. Soon enough you will be able to reclaim it and re do it. Inexpensive fixes are the best! Enjoy!
