I bought a Blue Java Banana tree (Musa acuminata × balbisiana) locally a few years ago, and I'd love to actually get some fruit from it! I kept the root (bulb?) in the basement until March, then put it in the greenhouse and kept it between 70 and 95. It's about 1' tall right now, so hopefully I'm on the right track.

Anyway, the question I have is:

Can I realistically keep it in a container and still hope to get fruit? If so, what size container?

I ask for a few reasons:

1. Putting it in the ground subjects it to wildlife eating it, but in a container I can protect it better;

2. I dug it up last year to put it in the basement, but if I keep it in a container then I can just scoot it in the greenhouse when it gets cold.

I understand that it takes about 2 years after planting to get fruit, but if I dig it up every year then does that restart the clock? Or can I expect fruit this year?
