Please help me stop being boring!

I am still looking for ideas for colorful accents to my hubby's newly remodeled man cave. Right now, all of the colors are charcoal black, greige, taupe, cream. I need to find a color accent for accent pillows but cannot get out of my neutral frame of mind. I would appreciate any advice you can give other than redoing the current decor. :-)

One thought...what is not shown are that my hubby's bar has burgundy vinyl bar stools. He likes the color but I want to redo them. I thought about pulling out the red in the brick fireplace as an accent...therefore he could possibly keep his red bar stools.

This last picture is the man cave kitchen area. The shelves are just drawn in to get an idea...but there is actually nothing on the wall yet. The wall is newly installed taupe subway tile. The cabinets were painted a matte graphite black.

Could this be an option?

That rug might be a good option if you buy it big enough to slip under the front 1/3 - 1/2 of the sofa and extend past its ends by at least a foot. Pick up the same color in new pillows and post pix of the burgundy stools for color reference here.

Actually, the swatch I am showing in red is fabric that I’m considering.

It’s very nice, I like the colors.

(Deleted my earlier post, as it didn’t apply. I thought it was a rug.)

@TeeCee84 I thought it was a rug too! So, fabric for what? And, is replacing current rug with one with similar colors to fabric an option? Do the burgandy stools go with this fabric? Seems like vinyl seats on stools would be more durable than fabric if that’s your thought. If you like all the strong neutrals, maybe bring burgandy / reds in through large art posters & pillows and change out the table lamps for bigger, chunkier pottery type bases - in multi colored reds / browns etc.

I wouldn't consider that fabric "man-cave" material. As a rug, maybe, yes, the colors are great. But for barstools, no. KW has given you good ideas.

The fabric is what I was considering to make accent pillows.

This is a chill space right!

Not sure what is going on with the gray chair - which does not say chill.

Where is the big screen TV?

This is the color of the bar stools. I just trying to find an accent color for the space and wondered if the “red” would be an option.

This will picture give a better idea of the space. The chair on the left was a chair my hubby liked so I reupholstered it in the taupe, grey & charcoal colors in the room already.

Perhaps the rug is the issue!

Red was my first thought too - and dark red can give that masculine den feel, IMO. Navy goes well with red

Is he a sports fan? Does he have a fave team? That could be an inspiration for color accents too.

What do you think about painting the fireplace charcoal? I’m usually anti-painting brick, but I think it could look good in this room.

    Jinx...that looks great...thank you!

Carol -- thank you! We are big into golf...we are in the process of getting prints of our favorite courses.

That fabric is still not saying "man-cave" to me for accent pillows. Give him some chunky solids or plaids or leather, or heavily textured corduroy. The gray chair needs a throw with color and or a textural black pillow, and a chunky end table next to it to help anchor it into the room. Right now it just kinda floats in that corner. The recliner seems really far away from the tv for optimal viewing, and maybe that is deliberate. But with a few more photos maybe we could recommend a rearrangement of furniture that might create a warmer vibe too.

Moore -- thank you! I like your ideas. I too do not like the recliner where it is...but that is "his" chair and he likes it like that. I am trying to decorate around his must-have's. Ugh.

Not to get “themed” here but…when you start looking at golf art….green tends to be a prominent color! Or you could go the route of a plaid. Grab your inspiration from the art and memorabilia that your husband has collected. A favorite painting of a hole can inspire an entire room. Use that as your jumping off point for a rug, pillows, additional chairs, etc. I, for one, would say…get a bigger TV! Have fun with the bar area. Keep the red bar stools. They are a lively color…but do embrace the greens (pun!) of golf. PS: My husband is a golf professional, so I get it!

That red rug Jinx posted REALLY solves the boring problem. I love how it instantly changed the feel of the room from bland to cozy.

One or two bland colors is ok paired with a strong color like red. But you say you have four bland colors?

Personally I’d get rid of the taupe and greige and replace with a strong color (red or green).

I think the fireplace in black and some gold (marigold) accents would be better than the red.

So I Googled 'glof club decor' and this came up - a collection of golf club interiors:

    How's that for some inspiration?

The color scheme is mostly gray with some red. I think you need to add more warmth in the form of brown leather and/or wood. For color, something complimentary such as dark green or navy.
