kitchen floor ?

Hi,
Should I install white Calcutta marble floor tile for kitchen or what u suggest ? I want my house to look high end house style, it’s in a $1 mil neighborhood. I selected marble white for backsplash. White quartz Raphael - white with thin lines. I want to redo my kitchen floor. My living room floor is wood flooring as in pic.My kitchen is open to living room. My walls are light grey. I will be changing all the lights too.

In my area I would continue the wood flooring.

If you look at real estate listings in your area for comparable homes that have recently been built or updated you will see what is popular in your area.

Get unfinished wood floor and have it finished to match the rest 2 different floors in such an open area are not attractive and if resale is the aim here there is IMO nothing high end about the cabinets and the giant fridge and yes to the lighting change to all LED 4000K but I honestly would not be spanding money on that kitchen if you want high end then wait and do it right The raised bare needs to go the cooktop under a window is poor design and IMO no venting for a gas cooktop is not even healthy.

I kind of agree with patricia, however, ill put it this way. If you upgrade your floor, your kitchen is going to look like it really, really needs an update. Thats not a million dollar kitchen and if you can sell your home today and get that $$, you dont need to worry about the floors. Are you planning a new kitchen and if so the floors should be a part of the design. I wouldnt do the floors and then have to work the kitchen around it.

..?marble? and quartz? [are cabinets and counter staying as shown?] go a little hand made or rustic with hardware/backsplash and floor if you insist on just the surface treatment for the space. ..... Here are some floors you can place ..vinyl in [squares or planks] get a new fridge w french doors and get a panel on the side so the metal or gray doesnt show [you have a huge glaring "no no " there] ....best to look over points raised about more serious issues in the kitchen before lots of money on the surface treatments

I don't like to be negative, but if you put marble in that kitchen without changing out the cabinets you are putting an earring on a pig. That kitchen looks at least 20 years old. If you are in an upscale neighborhood it is time for a remodel. Are you making these changes for yourself or are you looking toward resale? For resale, do nothing and let the buyer change it for their taste. Any halfway measures will make the rest look worse and annoy prospective buyers. When looking at homes to buy one of my pet peeves is new counters on old cabinets. That just causes me to walk away. I don't want to have to remove a new counter to replace cabinets. The floors you're looking at are more appropriate in a bathroom.

That makes a huge difference when youre asking about the floor. If it were me, I still wouldnt do that marble busy tile. Do you have samples of what you have chosen for the kitchen to post? You will get some good suggestions for the floor.

i am not a pro, the exhaust fan in front of an operating window ( it looks as if it may not be able to open? ) can be an issue, Is everything set in stone or can you still change things like layout? If youre comfortable with posting the kitchen layout you will certainly hear if there are any problems or a better way of arranging things. You would have to be reeeaaallly open to some criticism, most of the people here are trying to help.

So all quartz countertop are ordered .. only thing I can do is backsplash, and floor

Layout is the same minus the tiered bar? Meaning its still there without the raised bar, or did you switch around the existing footprint?

I agree about using wood. Site finished floors can be stained to match your old wood floors surprisingly well and it's a very upscale look with marble. And you do have a lot of marble going on so a wood floor will keep it classy instead of looking like a mausoleum. :)

You need a darker, warmer floor to anchor all the whites. if you cant do wood, look at a large format charcoal grey floor tile. lots of options for this everything from LVT to ceramic, to natual stone.

Major huge mistake on keeping that fire hazard design. That really downgrades the kitchen badly. You need to pause on everything until you fix that big fat pig of an issue.

I do recommend checking local code to see if it's allowed in new work, but I'm not seeing a fire risk.

(I do see a tricky cleaning risk, but the OP knows what they are getting into because they already have this setup.)

Verbo, if thats a non operating window, what is the hazzard? i just looked around a bit and ive read a lot about dangers of working windows not what happening here (I think) .I guess heat could shatter it? I dont know how that cooktop was used w/o an exhaust fan, was there a down draft? There may be a problem, MOST codes require the cooktop must be at least 1 foot away from a window. You should confirm before proceeding. Sorry, I kept reading lol

Wood, vinyl, and fiberglass are all combustible materials. So are wood studs, and wood siding. The required horizontal clearance to combustibles is being violated. Without a manufacturer’s required backguard, a complete non combustible assembly is required for the total horizontal clearance, or else the complete horizontal clearance distance must remain an open and empty space.Covering a combustible material with a non combustible one does not satisfy the fire codes. If that worked, you’d never burn the hamburger in your frying pan.

I agree, all the above are flammable. Unless theres a stovetop bonfire (dangerous on its own) flames would be nowhere near the inset window frame. From the picture, I dont see fiberglass or vinyl anywhere near the burners and Everybody who has a cabinet in their kitchen has wood in the same areas. Still check w your local codes.

Makes sense…. check w your local codes and let us know what they say.

I'm just happy it hasn't caused a major fire in the previous 25 years...

i wouldnt suggest the marble designs u show- too busy for kitchen floor. i used a similar marble tile for a portion of a small guest shower wall

Yes there is a downdraft and the window is non-openable. It doesn’t open. There is not fire hazard.. but yes will check with county too .. this house has been with downdraft near the window for 20 yrs nothing happened.

See there is a small window here too. It’s new construction in my area 2 years old.

You are replacing the cabinets or painting them? We need more info and IMO a wayerfall island only works in a very contemporary kitchen which yours is not as it is.

If you do tile get one with a texture or you'll have an ice-skating rink.

I would never do marble on a kitchen floor. (especially that marble that looks like bathroom tile) it would etch and stain like no ones business. save the calacatta for the backsplash.

if you're doing wood floors, continue them into the kitchen. That is the high end look that people want

if you can't do the wood, then try something in a black slate or porcelain laid out like this

Wood in picture looks great .. but I spill so much water on floor that I can’t do that .. it will spoil in 3-4 days
