Spring flowers while waiting for scapes

We still have no scapes here except for H. minor and dumortieri. A lot of other plants have begun to flower though.

The old garden roses have started. This is a hybrid rugosa called Hansa.

The dianthus have started blooming. All of the dianthus in the miniature bed have died out, but these in another bed look good.

We planted this bush last year. It is Kerria japonica flore pleno. Pleas ignore the weeds and the Preen can in the background. This bed is still a work in progress.

This is iris 'Batik'.

We don't know the name of this iris.

This is a group of old fashioned iris.

I like seeing other people's Iris. They really do have some vivid colors and I can see why people get addicted to them. Batik is one I craved for years and years. I don't grow bearded Iris now as our clay soil rots them out pretty quickly, so I tried Batik in a pot (my usual fall back position). I was told by the local Iris society that Iris don't do well in pots. Guess what. They were right. So I will have to admire yours - and I do.............Maryl

Great spring flowers. I like iris but only have two varieties. Batik is one , is the other is Edith Wolford. they seem to be space hogs here, gotta have room for those daylilies.

The iris are so pretty. And LOL on the preen! I had to move one of those in the background if one of my photos!!

I am curious-is that Virginia creeper in that picture with the preen? I have an inundation of that this year. So much more than usual. I am really fighting it in my garden beds

Lilykate, yes, that is Virginia creeper. We have it all over our property. This particular bed has been neglected and now it is being replanted, but the Virginia creeper decided to stay. We need to get that pulled off the house and finish that bed. It is supposed to be a mixed bed with a bench. We have spring bulbs there (planted last season), some daylilies, lilies, iris, dianthus, a kerria bush, hostas next to the house. It will be pretty when it's finished.

I'm in the same boat (well, not really waiting for daylily scapes. I'm happy they come later. It gives me time to enjoy everything else). I really like your Iris pics. Batik is cool and different and your unnamed one is interesting. If I could find it, it might look good next to these. (or not, maybe its not almost blue enough).
