if the clumps are doing well and its just the thatch that’s a problem just cut them real short with clippers or a string trimmer, rake the mess up, throw a couple handfuls of lawn fertilizer around the bed and water it in. Much easier than dividing, and it is just grass after all, no sense babying it!

Theres probably more thatch than green, i an thinking now i need to dig up and discard. Dont know why the bed looks so bad. We sharpened up a turf edger, and that is helping to separate the clumps that still have some life. i think the bed needs a do-over unfortunately.
