If the item is purchased and resold at the exact same price there is no sales tax. 20% will be added to each purchase because an out of state designer who-has-never-been-inside-your-house needs to earn money from helping you.

"item arrives at your receiver" You need to clarify who the receiver is and if it is a warehouse what the charges are for items to be delivered to your house.

When you pay the management fee, you are getting the item at designer's cost plus 20%. In my experience, you are still getting the item for less than if you purchased it yourself.

However, I don't use that method for my on-line clients. I keep a meticulous time-spent log, and I charge by the hour. I make the recommendation, based on the client's style, space, make floor plans, color choices, etc but client buys the product. Exchanging or returning is the responsibility of the client.

One thing to keep in mind if you are buying seating, if possible, have the designer make suggestions from stores in your area, giving you a chance to sit before you purchase.

Thank you both for your responses. Appreciate the clarification as the wording threw me off. I will certainly clarify who the receiver is as I just assumed it was me. Also a great idea to have them recommend a local store because comfort is so important.
Hoping that the 20% fee is offset by any designer discount but even if not, I think it’s worth it. I’ve not run across anyone who charges a flat fee but that’s a great model.

Sorry not a flat fee, I meant hourly fee. Either way, I think it’s worth it.
