I wish I could grow Hostas here but they are a favorite of deer. Your iris reminds me of one I use to grow called Butter and Sugar (Siberian Iris). Perhaps a dutch iris?

The cooler weather is great, isn't it? I like the hostas and the unusual iris! Thank goodness the lightning finally stopped so your youngest kid could graduate.

Congratulations on your son's diploma. I'm sure he's ready to move on from High School as are you.......I really like your hostas. I have one group of them, but they always look so ratty by the fall just when I want them to revive and look good again in the cooler weather.....Sure looks like a Dutch Iris to me too. I'm a fan of them, just don't have the room to grow as many as I would like. Butter and Sugar would be a good guess as to the name of the one you have. They are marginally hardy in my Zone 7a, and in your area that may be why only some of them return and bloom each year..............Maryl

I like your hostas, Brad. They always look so good at this time of year. I have several hosta. But they get more sun than they like. They look good til late July and August, but then go crispy. I agree about it being Dutch iris. I used to have several, but over the years they just dwindled away.

Never heard of Dutch Iris. They actually only bloom about every 4 or so years! I moved them to a not prime place. Must be too cold as you suggested Maryl.

My hostas start to look bad mid summer too but due to bugs. Sometimes I remember to spray them and then they hold up. Sometimes I put sand around them which slugs hate and that helps too. But most of the time I forget to do both until too late,

I guess I should have said it is my daughter Brianna that graduated! LOL. She's the one who likes daylilies too, though several other kids do look at them when in full bloom.

The hostas look good, Brad and that is a beautiful Iris. So Brianna is the last of yours in High School. Congratulations to her.
