I would turn the table 180 degrees and get all the chairs up to table if possible. I don’t think the space is large enough for a rug but you need a min of 24” from table to edge of rug for chairs to stay on the rug. Very interesting room. I do like blues in the room because that balances all the dark brown of the woods.

as for rug, we are getting ready to retile kitchen into dining and going with a saltillo type tile so maybe a rug not necessary??

Also, this is my centerpiece vase for dining room table. We bought it in venice during our honeymoon and somehow its made it through all of our moves unscathed.

Here are my suggestions... I would start by painting the walls white. Spanish furniture stands out well against white wall and so would your dark doors and woodwork. If possible, either reupholster the chairs for an updated look or make or buy slip covers for the chairs in a linen look fabric, that would also be nice with the dark wood of your furniture. In my sketch, I show buffet lamps and a large bouquet on the dining table. To complement the look, a vintage look area rug with off-white, beige, rust & blue colours with light beige curtain panels on black rod.

The walls are white, but in the phptos they looks much warmer for some reason.

If you carry tile into dining room, you probably don’t need a rug. Aside from not enough room for one. It’s so nice to see someone on Houzz who has a eye for a design that isn’t white and gray! Very exciting.

Your valued wood - I thought it too simple and "functional," until I looked at the console and it seemed nice - is console slightly distressed? It doesn't quite fit the glorious vibe of the art, but it doesn't really matter. Have you had it on the table instead?

I am not much for the moss balls, etc... but maybe with yours, yeh, a dull mercury glass... something of Church culture. I want to find my sheer runner.

I found a couple brass items but you can shop locally for similar. You want one slightly lower than lamp height then the other piece on other side slightly lower. I put dried olive tree branches for nod to area of picture. Might find or have leather bound Bible for center or leave open for a tray and place to set side dishes for meal times.

I would pull your lamps in from the edge a couple inches so they fit the overall vignette.

Adding some more gold, I was planning on using a gold frame to frame either an 11x14 or 8x10 oil painting of the church we were married in or a black/white and then a smaller horizontal photo above similar to our photo/painting below it. This will be on the wall across from madonna painting. Similar to photo layout in photo.

Gold with pewter accents would be wonderful, and very authentic old world Spanish.

Here is the vase. Very reasonable price. Bowl $$$ but I think you can find one. Might add a small green leafy plant to one side too.

Plant type and drapery ideas. I would keep drapery solid so you can dress up the table for holidays without undue influence from printed draperies. You could add a fringe to leading edge of panels for sone pizzaz if you wish. Mail down your tile first. A hexagon shape would be great.

I put these in a home in Florida who was in love with color. We paired navy blue with them and sone sage green with golds and copper. She loves it.

See if this is better. Plus one that is similar. We happened to hit a close out sale and got a great deal on them.

It does take an experienced tile person to get these laid properly and they require an adequate grout gap to manipulate the size variations but look fantastic!

No, its a split level home and office/playroom is downstairs and that’s where the square tile will be.

Ok. Perfect. No problem then. A good subfloor is important so keep that in mind.

Yes, I am!! oh my mom & I are ooing and awwing over these pics!! Especially the one with the stairs.

Just make sure you test out actual saltillo tile floors by walking on them first. Our previous house in LA was Spanish style with quite a lot of orange saltillo tile. It was not a great floor to live with due to the uneven/textured tiles. Hard to walk on. The kids couldn't build Legos on it. Our office desk chairs went clunk clunk whenever you tried to move, the orange-red color just sucked the life out of the rooms and they were hard to clean. We ended up removing and replacing around 4K sq.ft of saltillo. It was not an antique Spanish and the people who built the house had not used high quality materials for the finishes, so we didn't feel bad about replacing it.

yes, there are diff types of tile. (if you google image search spanish tiles inside home" or interior terra cotta tiles", you see lots of ideas)

(Do you have a spanish style home w/the wrought iron staircase design you could copy? you can easily do the color tiles on the risers of your stairs

you may be able to find somehting like these in porcelain.

the Saltillo tiles you find for cheap are made in mexico. they don't have to be uneven, but they will need sealing and can be slippery.

I laid this tile w/some Talavera tile accents on my back patio.

If you don't get the pre-sealed tiles, they won't be as slippery, and these are pretty flat.

The sealer really darkens them. You can get these in diff tones and seal w/a non enhancing matte sealer.

here's an arabesque shape that are matte and have a little texture to them. paired w/the square tiles on the staircase. it's fine to mix and match.

if your budget is a little more flexible, try the actual Terra Cotta tiles.

Zia Tile (Cle tiles too) has these 6" star and cross. I love these. prob won't be cheap to install

The mixed colors are also nice. the soft sand color w/the rust accents would look nice w/your walls and chair colors.

So beautiful, and your outdoor patio! My downstairs tile I should preface is actually porcelain that resembles saltillo. I did this because my kids and dogs are downstairs. Upstairs where our kitchen/dining is I want to use a hexagon saltillo though.

Beth - your knowledge! may I bother to ask for any of us, what about stains, etc. if the tile isn't sealed?

everdebz, you seal it yourself. the factory pre sealed tiles are super slippery. I happen to have those on my front porch and have slipped numerous times while watering. The ones in the back are not and I sealed them w/the proper sealer. however, it has to be done every few years. I notice when I bbq grease will stain the tiles around that spot. I need to redo the sealer.
