Need thoughts on bathroom door placement.

We had plans for a master bedroom addition with new master bathroom drawn up about a year ago. We finally found a builder and are selecting materials. However the door placement to the bathroom is bugging me. It seems like it will be obtrusive with the current right hand swing in. Not sure if left hand or swing out would be better. We mentioned a pocket door, but we're discouraged from that option. I also considered a pocket to just for the toilet and maybe leave the bathroom open? The closet is the room adjacent to the bathroom and does not currently have a door.

IMO a pocket door would be perfect and whay not? IMO toilet rooms are just silly no one should be using the toilet while some one else is in the bathroom and in this case the size of adoor to close that off would be a bigger issue than the entry door. The closet is too narrow how will you get in there even with only one side hanging space you need a min. of 6' wide

I would not want to go through a closet to get to the bathroom or vice versa. Moisture/humidity could cause issues for the closet too. Any other option?

I agree with Patricia Colwell Consulting about the closet too narrow with 2 sides of hanging space. I would do one side on the exterior wall, at least you can get a rod below the window or a bench in that area.

Can you reverse the bath layout

so that the vanity is the first thing you see upon entry?

It looks like you are limited in moving doors and windows around?

A separate door into the bath and a separate door into the closet would give you more closet hanging space.

    Karenseb’s plan is better.

    What is that area?

The other side of the bathroom is a pantry that accesses from a new hallway.  There is currently no kitchen pantry, so it's pretty important.

The closet comments are fair.  If we flip the closet entrance and have no hanging space on the bathroom wall, we should have better traffic and more storage.  The window on that wall is about 5' off ground so a bench or storage under there is completely possible.

Not sure about flipping the fixture locations.  I no longer recall exactly why we ended up here, but that window which has an in line transom was a big part of it.

I like Karen's layout but if you like to keep the vanity in the center, I suggest that you make the toilet space 2'10 1/2" wide and remove the wall to make your bathroom looks more spacious and to get a 54" long vanity. I would recommend a pocket door but if you choose to get a regular door, I would swing it the other direction so you see the tub and the vanity first. Make sure you get a 21" deep vanity (18" vanity might be better with a door that swings inward).

Why is the window in the closet and not the bathroom? What is driving the bathroom location?

It is very difficult to address these areas without drawings of the rooms adjoining…but just a quick observation the shapes of the rooms and amount of space allotted seems insufficient for comfortable use..
