Memorial Day Blooms

A few more daylilies are blooming now. I had some ffo's the past few days, but they didn't open well because of the low night temps. With last nights lows in the high 60s, everything was looking better this morning.

Ghost Gifts ffe - I got this one a year ago, but this is its first bloom ever.

Stone Palace Rejoice is registered as a midseason bloomer, but it always blooms extra early here.

Ice Cream Emperor has had blooms for the past three days.

Victorian Garden Heaven's Applause had a nice group this morning.

Here's that Dragonfly Dawn seedling I posted last time. It still has a pattern - but not as ornate. The ornate pattern had cherry red and grayish lavender color. Today the pattern is purple and shades of lavender and white.

Debra, Ghost Gifts is awfully pretty and I really like the Dragonfly Dawn seedling.

I like Ice Cream Emperor too along with Stone Palace Rejoice, which I don't remember seeing before..................Maryl

Maryl - Stone Palace Rejoice has bloomed here for three seasons. It doesn't do anything for me, and is on the move-out list.

Brad and Maryl - Ice Cream Emperor is always one of my favorites in the early season. It usually reblooms too!

Nancy - That's my seedling out of Dragonfly Dawn - not Dragonfly Dawn. DD has been very disappointing here. The seedlings from it perform much better than the parent.

I love the nice green throat and pattern on Ghost Gifts. Ice Cream Emperor is always one I enjoy seeing. That is a nifty seedling, every day is guess as to what you will see.

Thank you for bringing that to my attention, i did not catch that it is a seedling. Very nice, and good to know info on Dragonfly Dawn.

Ghost Gifts and the Dragonfly Dawn seedlings are my picks today. But in all honesty, all of them are lovely. The sepals on the seedling are quite interesting too.

The DD seedling is so pretty! My Ice Cream Emperor is almost done blooming but agree it is always so pretty-not sure mine reblooms. I also like Ghost Gifts.

Julia - I think the name Ghost Gifts refers to the white places in the pattern. They don't always show up, from what I've seen in sellers' photos. So sometimes you're gifted with ghosts and other times not.

Kate - I've grown Ice Cream Emperor in two different places, and it's rebloomed almost every year in both. Maybe in another location, yours would rebloom.

Kate and Nan - While the DD seedling is very pretty, it doesn't have more than eight buds on any scape. But taller seedlings with tall foliage block it. Maybe in another spot, it will have more buds and bit more height.

What was the appeal of Stone Palace Rejoice to begin with? I notice that Evick lists a lot of his intros as 7 inches. That's a quite large bloom, and I wonder if it is a distortion.

Mantis - I don't think Stone Palace Rejoice has ever been 7 inches for me. The blooms are usually 6-6.5 inches here. It is a good rebloomer. The appeal to me was the hybridizer's photo that made the bloom look more pink than it is. It's a very orangey pink - sometimes an orange red color here. I thought it would be a good hybridizing plant, but because I hate the color, I don't care to cross it with any of my pinks.
