Fix and beef up columns. Landscaping will be the best improvement

What color are the window frames? I’m seeing white garage door, cream front door and ??? Windows?

Agree with above. The cream door and stark white of the garage don’t work. I would also make a walkway to the door. It doesn’t look very welcoming to have the only entrance be the driveway.

My first thoughts without seeing a good view of entire front of house & yard: No porch railing, beefier posts, add walkway from drive or front sidewalk to porch, add landscape! Create a deep planting bed in front of porch; paint garage door something besides white, paint front door a color to make it stand out; change front porch lights to larger lights with more personality - are there any lights on garage sides? Add them to match front porch lights. That ought to keep your son busy this summer.

ETA looks like roof could use cleaning so best to check the condition of gutters too. Comfy chairs for front porch to sit on right side of porch would make a great housewarming gift!

Hanging plants are ok but don't think they work on this porch, It looks narrow. Clean the roof, fix the pillars, clean up the lawn.

Rough idea. all paint to br the same color.

center the two center columns to the door opening. that will be a huge step and yes beef them up. stained not painted and paint the garage brown and front door a pop

great visuals from @HU-8287326jep & @RL Relocation LLC ! The beefed up porch supports make a huge difference. And, I know the visuals are just that, but advise your son to consider the colors of the house brick when choosing flowering shrubs, leaf colors of trees - it makes a big difference. Picture white or blue flowers instead of all that pink against the orangy brick.

Looks like the house has no gutters. Maybe add them with rain chain systems. How about shutters?

I like the white thicker posts ...but centered to frame the front door as in the first suggestion...I like the ideas of shutters ..a walkway and more flowering shrubs .. nice house!
