I'm trying to spruce up my 1920 apartment and I wanted to get some ceiling medallions for my nicer light fixtures. I saw that there's a huge range of prices and materials: urethane, wood, plaster. $20-500.

My question is - if the medallion is painted, can anyone distinguish between a $20 medallion and a $500 medallion? Or a plastic medallion and a plaster medallion? Is there a difference in quality, or is the price difference for the design?
