This is my chandelier which isn't right for your space but you can see it is at the proper height to light the table but because of its flat profile it doesn't interrupt the view.

Try this one - I see it at Home Depot and it's better looking than the pics. It will be lovely in the space and not block the view

I agree on the flushmount being wrong. I've thought about a flat alternative that wouldn't hinder the view. With the recessed ceiling I had read somewhere the rule of thumb was 36" over table plus and extra 3" for every foot higher ceiling. This recess appears to be about 3 feet in depth. Haven't measured it exactly. That would make the drop to the table 36" Plus 9" for extra height. Does that sound right?

thanks RL Relocation LLC. I had not even considered a flush wafer light. That may be a great solution to not distract, but light up the recess ceiling. If I did that, I was thinking about reusing the existing light in my laundry room. What do you think about that?

you are right about laundry task light. Im thinking maybe my walk in closet since we have brushed chrome lighting and fixtures in the adjoining bathroom. thanks again for your help!!
