I purchased two Firefly Peach Sky plants a couple of months ago and I’d love to be able to show you a photo, except the resident groundhogs have found them absolutely irresistible and have eaten them down to the ground three times; I’ve yet to see a single bloom. I had to move them from my backyard to the front yard just to remove the temptation from these tubby terrors, as no repellents I have tried have worked.

I think I saw some youtube videos of at least the Firefly series of achillea, so you might want to check there for more info.

That's a shame. I did see videos online but they are from growers and nurseries not your average Gardner so I don't like to depend them much. They all look good until you get them home and put them in the ground! I had a problem with baby rabbits eating mine. I cut a chicken fence about 14 inches high and made a circle out of it and that stopped them but don't know about groundhogs. You can't even see the fence until you are standing over it because it's green ,it just blends in. I used garden pins to pin it down.

I had wire cages over mine and the groundhog burrowed under them enough to be able to eat most of the leaves. Then i bought fox urine granules and sprinkled them around my garden, but the groundhogs were unfazed! Then i bought ”i must garden” groundhog repellent and a plastic owl with a rotating head…those worked for two days, but then the little beasties came back to snack on my petunias. They’re horrible and I’m probably going to have to have them trapped and relocated.

Good luck with your yarrow search…if I get any blooms on mine, I’ll come back and post a pic! There are a couple of buds now, so I’m hopeful.

Is it in a area to hook up a motion activated sprinkler that's made for the purpose of keeping animals out. I have this one and it keeps racoons out of my water garden at night. U can set it for day,night or both.And u can adjust it to only spray a certain area.

Ammonia in a dishpan or basin keeps the groundhogs away. We had one in a crawlspace adjacent to our basement. It was making the most horrible mess of poop and odor that I have ever encountered. We called around and found that in VA they have to be killed not relocated. The guy wanted in excess of $400 to come and trap/kill it. We uncovered the basement access to the crawlspace and cleaned out all the poop sprayed ammonia all over the soil and placed lime pellets as well and a dishpan of ammonia. It never came back in. We have since told folks to place dishpans of ammonia around plants and also soak the ground as it doesn't harm plants . Works beautifully. Hope you can get good results. c

I’ve read about setting up a motion activated sprinkler, but I don’t think it will work in our situation, given the location of our garden - it’s accessible from all four sides. Gotta think about this some more, thanks!

I’ve pretty much resigned myself to eventually trapping and killing them, as it’s illegal to relocate nuisance animals in Michigan. We have multiple groundhogs, but two in particular are what we have seen on our game cam…they seem to be juveniles, they’re much smaller than a full sized groundhog.

This morning my dogs chased one under a firewood rack, and my smaller corgi almost got it. I was shrieking like you wouldn’t believe!!! It got away and hasn’t been back, but I know i’ll see it again tomorrow if I don’t take any action. It’s eaten not only my yarrow and petunias now, but my green beans and peppers as well. I’m at the end of my rope.
