Can chipmunk holes kill plants?

I just discovered some chipmunk holes all in one certain spot and wondering if their tunnels can kill plants nearby. I have a beautyberry nearby and if the roots can’t come in contact with soil will it die? Also will there be a hollow tunnel forever even after the chipmunks leave? How does the tunnel get filled up naturally?
