Definite dry rot.. I am wondering if I can plant another hosta there and are the top two pics salvageable? Do I have to sanitize my tools?

just pot them.. full bright shade.. keep very wet.. and leave them next to the water spigot until fall ... [if in shade ]

check roots again... and either plant them.. or get rid of them .. or just put them back int eh pot..and let them fend for themselves over winter ...

any chance they went into winter in drought late last fall???? .. when you planted it back when.. did you bare root it.. and plant in native soil??

It’s 4 years old, so don’t remember it being bare rooted……. I probably planted it with whatever soil came with it….….this was before I was using private online vendors. Went into native soil, never fertilized, only drenched for slugs….lol.

It did not go into the ground during last falls drought. Is it ok to use potting soil, not dirt, but potting soil.

when I recheck the roots, what should I be looking for???? White, plump, new growth??? Also, is the soil where they were planted ok or does it need replacing?
