Dearest Valentine FFO's on Wednesday

Nice beginning for Dearest Valentine. She provided 4 blooms to start off and noticed only 1 of the blooms was cupping (is that a technical term?). I took the first pic while the sun was still shining and then went and did another when the clouds moved in. Very humid here and the storms went around us even though they had warnings up all day. Must have gotten rain last night into early this morning but not a lot.

I really like the backdrop of the balloon flowers and they are blue doubles.I had to check the tag and see many now have the doubling.

That was all FFO's here so far. Looks like a couple of other daylilies will start within the week. Hopefully I can get through all the daylilies opening this year.

My garden tractor was picked up yesterday so hopefully they can figure out what happened and also get the maintenance done quickly otherwise I'll have to hire someone to mow.

Landscaping project is almost near completion as far as the contractor was hired to do. Well, it just started raining here so I guess no work outside . Does that mean I have to do housework??????

      Do housework?! Egads. There's always the daylily forum to come to instead........Dearest Valentine looks very pretty in your garden next to those balloon flowers. I think mine enjoyed it more last year when the temperatures were a bit cooler then 104 (temp yesterday here). I know I did......In your picture what are the little yellow flowers bottom right?..........Maryl

      Maryl: Blanket Flowers. Either Mesa Yellow or AZ Apricot Shades. I kept a list of what I bought last year and its raining so can't pull the tag from the planting. Yes, I kept all the plant tags burried next to the plantings. They came back very strong and large clumps this year. I also have the Mesa Red which is a huge clump this year too.

      It's good to see Dearest Val looking so colorful. I never got a good picture of mine this season because those Heat Index days of 107-110 faded it so badly. It also caused a lot of bud drop. This is the first year ever that mine hasn't had instant rebloom. Maybe it will rebloom later. I like how yours looks with the balloon flowers. Are you stilll having cool temps?

      Debra: Our overnight temps stay now in the upper 60's to low 70's with humidity. In that pic, only one showed that cupping. Yesterday (Wednesday) we reached 90 but the humidity was unbearable. On another subject, I think Boundless Beauty will open another bud by tomorrow so will see how long it takes to open fully. I'll then cut off all the other buds and let the plant rest.

      Nice photo of Dearest Valentine. I moved mine last year and it scaped late-then heat and dry weather hit it and I only had 2 buds to bloom. Hopefully a better year next year! Its previous spot was too shady-maybe I should have left it there!!!

      I have been admiring your balloon flowers as well. The only ones I ever grew were short-I like your tall ones and the color is a cool companion color in your garden.

      That is a beautiful start to Dearest Valentine. Mine rebloomed today and was the best bloom I had on it this year. Yours look wonderful! And the balloon flowers do set it off so well.

      What cultivar of balloon flowers do you have? Mariesii? How tall do they grow? Your pic of DV shows a color that really befits the name--a bright rose pink.

      mantis: I have to pull the tag and see what it says. Both the blue and white are very tall.
