Tika - excellent video on the first link. I am going to have to trellis a number of my hoyas. Off to HD I go trying to find some bamboo sticks! Right now my vines are growing wild all over the place. Boy are they going to be surprised when they find out they have something to climb!

Tika, I'll post a video tomorrow after I take it. What I did was break off some hydrangea stalks from last year and used them similar to bamboo stalks. I'll check HD tomorrow to see if they have bamboo, but the hydrangeas seem to be working fine. It's certainly not pretty, but it works.

Back by popular demand! Since Tika asked me to post a video of my trellising, I made one this morning. I used old hydrangea stalks from last years growth. It's certainly not pretty, but for now it will work. Once I get to the store I'll p/u some more appropriate stakes and do it right. I don't think the plants will mind either way, but for purely aesthetic reasons, it will look better when they're brought inside in another few months. hope you enjoy the video. BTW - there's a shot of another noid at the end, maybe a guess on the name?

Tika, I originally thought it was a merrillii, but after looking them up I'm convinced it's a quinquenervia. Great, now that I know who he is, I just need to take a class on how to pronounce and spell quinquenervia! It really took off this year and is pushing out some strong vines. I've been feeding all my hoyas much more often now and it shows in both growth and blooms.

I think your hydrangea stems are a great idea. Won't you be surprised when one of them starts producing leaves because it actually roots in the pot! I've seen it happen.

If you have any old orchid wires, you know the coated metal wire, you can bend it easily into a hoop shape to use as a trellis.

Popmama, yes, that would be surprising. I can only hope.

Tika, I use either dyna-gro foliage pro or miracle grow orchid door. Dyna is a liquid and miracle is a powder. I mix then at 1/2 the recommended dosage. Sometimes I use one and other times the other. No set routine. They are watered at least 2x per week, and some of the pots, because they dry out so quickly, are watered literally every day unless it's overcast, then I'll skip that day.

I found a great link detailing the differences betweem merrillii and quinquenervia. The flowers are very different.
