front yard colorscape / hardscape
Hey guys! I am excited about remodeling my front yard and looking for some ideas and inspiration. The awesome people I met here helped me with my house paint exterior color and now I am excited about this project!!!!
Attached is the picture of the front elevation of my house with the yard. Right now I have only a maple tree centered to the window and a healthy red maple bush on the side.
My goal is to keep things modern and minimal and I love to display the white exterior of my house as it makes it look expansive.
I am planning to get rid of the maple tree in front of the window. It feels too busy there.
I want to extend the porch walk away all the way to the sidewalk
I want all the grass gone and hardscape with colorful decorative rocks
behind the red maple is amazing planting area . I have a pink Eden climbing rose which literally will be a show stopper that I am thinking of planting there to climb over the fence with some companion colorful shrubs next to it
something colorful in front of the window that has pop of colors but nothing that covers the window .
I have tons of David Austin roses that I can purpose.
Open to all ideas!!!!

4 years agoIt looks like you are going for a more modern look and you can’t beat cacti/succulants for that. We have octopus agave across the front of our house and love their sculptural look.
The purple leaved Santa Rita prickly pear cactus is purple year round but it is prickly! It would look beautiful against the white of your house though. We have rock landscapes front and back and love them.

3 years agoHi! We just re did our yard in Tiburon (North Bay-same climate zone) and had the same goal! Our house is modern farmhouse but it is white like yours. We designed it with low maintenance, drought tolerant in mind since we planned to rent it out. How about choices like: olive tree (love them!), asparagus ferns (my fave!) succulents, lavender, star magnolia, blue fescue grass, Mexican pebble stones. You could also add height variation with potted plants. I’m currently exploring Cor-Ten steel or black aluminum pots as I like the pop of color and juxtapose from the contrasting materials of stucco and steel. Good luck!

Here is the steel. You’d need to make sure to set a tiny small space between the steel and hardscape with anything like dirt, mulch, DG, pebbles, etc so that the rust does not stain it.
