Waht is the purpose of motorized shades maybe explain that and we can get a better idea of the choices.IMO window coverings ar always expensive so some real thought needs to go into the choices not just cost but overall use and your style. Do you actually need motorized everywhere or only on a few windows . I need more info.

We did Hunter Douglas motorized shades for most of the house. This is my third house using HD and my parents used them in a couple of houses going back 35 years. I have large windows and many of those face west, so I needed sun control for later in the afternoon. I will be integrating those blinds into the Crestron home automation, so they close/open on a schedule. We are waiting for many Crestron modules that are back ordered.

The main reason I went with HD is the top down/bottom up option. Lutron does not offer that.

Right now I'm sitting in my office area that faces the street. I have the HD blinds opened 2/3 of the way with the "top down" so I can see the sky and get natural light, but someone walking by can not see me at my desk. We have all our bathroom blinds set up this way too.

Don't just think about the upfront cost, but also think about the company behind the product and the level of service they offer. I had manual HD blinds in my previous house and I would have, on average, one blind break per year. HD was still servicing my blinds that were 10 years old. I did have to pay for shipping but they covered the repairs.
