Too dry?

In my experience, Geranium macrorhizum is significantly more drought tolerant than ”Biokovo”. My Biokovos have needed a bit of supplemental watering in recent periods of drought, while G. macrorhizum hangs in there just fine on its own.

I wold also push down on the soil in the dying areas. Sometimes burrowing small critters like voles expose roots to air via tunnels or even eat the roots, though most geraniums seem immune from being eaten.

I assume you are experiencing the same hight heat and drought that many of us have been. Many of my perennials and hostas have burned badly this year. when I had potted geraniums, I kept them pruned by snipping the dead blooms. They kept blooming! I wish you good luck!

My geraniums always get ratty looking by now too. The best thing to do is to keep them watered until the heat wave breaks, and then cut them all back to the base. They wll fill in with all new foliage and go into the winter in better shape. If you've never done that though, and I'm not familiar with the kind of summer you are having - if it's very hot and/or very dry, but you might want to try a small patch this year to make sure they will respond well and next year you can do all the geraniums you have.
