quick bathroom refresh

Need a quick fix for the two bathrooms pictured. Peel off wallpaper and repaint? Wallpaper over? Maybe wallpaper one wall as a focus wall? Context: buying a fixer upper. Trying to make the bathrooms livable for now without a major renovation, which will eventually happen down the line. Color ideas? Leave the mirrors or fix? Hit me with any ideas, I’m clueless ! I know they are awful! But we have to live with them till we get the other areas fixed. (Thinking of swapping out the gold-trimmed sink and gold hardware to help.)

Neither of those bathrooms are awful…even the colorful paper is okay…you just need to get towels and rugs to match..whichever color you prefer from the print…the little one is fine too …tho’ the mirror looks high?…if so move it down…and just put a gold frame around it….try looking at a picture framing store if you want something pretty..they can make it from measurements..or just use a nice trim moulding..and spray paint it gold..in a tiny bath that wall color-is perfect…just pick a rug that has a nice darker shade of gold in a print ..or stripe …so it wont show soil

Pull off the wallpaper and paint. Get a new light fixture and add some nice pulls for the vanity doors.

For the smaller bathroom, I'd just paint, frame the mirror and leave it for now. It's not bad.

I’m not sure peeling off paper is a chore I would want as a temporary solution….who knows what will be needed to prepare the surface for paint….there are lots of simple ..even elegant …wallpapers to lay over what is there….until you are ready for a permanent re-do…same theory with the mirror..it will work once you update the wallpaper…

For the smaller one: I was wondering if we should go along with the beige countertop, adding a similar or related toned color to the walls to make it look intentional, or maybe a deeper blue (like the sea-blue or navy)? Or maybe one focus wall (behind the mirror or the wall with all the frames)? For the larger one: what color? Grey? Blue? Ideas for what kind of light above the mirror? I really have no clue!

Yes, removing wallpaper can be difficult. It can cause/reveal other problems. However, if you think you will be keeping the bathroom walls intact in the next renovation, then it’d be worth it to fix it now and enjoy your results. Plus - you never know how far away the next remodel will be. Life happens. You can also try to pull off some paper in an inconspicuous spot to see how it comes off. You may be pleasantly surprised. Or horrified — then get a couple quotes from a pro to see what they’d charge for wallpaper removal and paint. It may be worth it.
