Butterflies and Allegheny Skyline

Doing my walkabout before the humidity makes me retreat inside. Storms hit us yesterday so another day of no watering the trees or gardens. It did cool us down 15 degrees but that didn't last long.

Allegheny Skyline looked so pretty in a clump I had to take a photo (with my phone since camera is charging). Shaded for the moment as the sun moves overhead and that part of the garden will be back in sunlight. It must be the perfect spot for this daylily. Thisi is probably the 2nd flush of blooms.

And of course I took some pics (with my camera using telephoto) of another 2 butterflies that visit the garden over the past 2 days.

Black Swallowtail (Eastern)- hard to get that one to stay still long enough to get a good photo of its wings showing the blue more. It was all over everything but seems mostly attracted to the coneflowers.

Tiger Swallowtail - this one was easier to capture a pic. Loves the Bee Balm.

and the Zebra Swallowtails I've showed already. We have a nice variety here. Still trying to take a pic of the hummingbirds.

Pretty blooms, Julia! After this season I agree with what you noticed, most of my daylilies do better if they have some shade. I see tiger swallowtails here often.

My Allegheny Skyline is in full sun, and it does not look as nice a clump as yours. Its color does not like all that sun exposure.

I love to see your butterflies, especially the Swallowtails. We may designate you the official Swallowtail lady...............Allegheny Sunset is a pretty purple, but you always have nice purples................Maryl

mantis: once the sun hits Allegheny Skyline for about 6 hours with this heat the color does lessen. I just live headed the daylilies and most of them have some lessen of color. I did notice that Catastrophe Waitress also was looking a lot like Kay's pics.just now. Mornings it is much deeper in color.

Maryl: I'll have to see how many more varities come to the garden.

Sherry: I'm trying to decide how to get more shade given this climate is hotter than we had in NY although my sister told me she is experiencing 90's in NY as well but not much rain.

Love all the butterflies. And love the photo of Allegheny Skyline. It’s great that you have that second flush and also some shade to temper the fade color. It’s hard to find that balance of shade in the garden.

Love the butterflies and Allegheny Skyline is lovely in the clump shot. I imagine the butterflies are attracted to your inter-planting of different blooms not just the daylilies, They are sitting on some of the others.

Allegheny Skyline looks very happy in that spot! Your butterfly shots are lovely. The swallowtails - the same as the two you photographed - showed up here in the past few days.

I love your clump of Allegheny Skyline. So beautiful!!!!

Those are nice butterfly shots. We have a lot of Black Swallowtails here in the late summer. I haven't seen any yet this year. They are probably my favorite.
