I don't like that rug, at all. The one you own has better, richer colors. Have it cleaned and get a good felt pad for it. Just because the art is orange, doesn't mean you have to ignore it.

Thank you. I actually asked to not keep the rug because I wanted to move to a more modern decor, and felt it limited us. It's also a bit small for the space here which is larger.

Can I still not like the rug in your scheme? : < ). I think the rug looks too polyester and the colors aren't strong enough to work with the art. Keep in mind the floors are very orange, too.

True, our floors are sadly orange:)! I thought we needed a more neutral rug - open to any suggestions.

On my monitor the floors look very red. With the green sofas you may get more of a holiday vibe than a modern one. unless you plan to refinish/replace them. What will you do with the room at the far end? I'd like to see that orange art hung vertically there to be seen through the door. Then I'd paint the TV wall the same color of orange. Hang the horizontal striped art in your dining room. Do you still need that big dining table? It looks like its been a family favorite! Maybe blue sofas would work better.

Are you married to the orange art? Honestly, it is a lot with the floors and the wall color.

I like this rug. Unless you are going to refinish/stain the floors and paint the walls, I suggest you work with what is.

We will replace with something like this https://www.cb2.com/coated-resin-dining-table/s172486. Re-horizontal striped art, it's red, black & brown - would it go with Navy & orange though? And should I get a more neutral rug to tone down the "red/orange" of the floors etc.?

Maybe not with black and brown; hard to tell on my monitor. If you went with that table in black, you could pull it off, but might want to do black sofas then. You do risk going from Christmas to Halloween though! lol You can't go wrong with a bigger rug and the room can handle it.

Thanks - the plan is actually to get 4 chairs, 2 on either side. so the thought was to get two solid to match the sofa, and 2 patterned. 4 of the same seems like a bit much?
