Prep Sink Help - Sink Workstation?

Hi,

I’m unable to modify the kitchen layout and the prep sink will be installed in a kitchen island.

We can go with one of the following:

1) ZEEK 23 X 19 INCH UNDERMOUNT WORKSTATION SMALL KITCHEN SINK, which includes a cutting board, collander, roll matt and more — this will limit the prep area to the left of the sink to 35”

2) ZEEK 15 X 17 INCH UNDERMOUNT WORKSTATION, includes a cutting board and roll matt — this will limit the prep area to the left of the sink to 43”

3) ZEEK 10 X 18 INCH UNDERMOUNT WORKSTATION BAR SINK, includes cutting board and roll matt — this will limit prep area to the left to 48”

FYI - we do not bake often and need to roll out dough and when we do, we can use the rest of the island/other counter (fairly good sized kitchen). Also, the smaller the sink more space to the right sure, but not worried about that.

We were initially leaning towards the first workstation, thinking it’s okay to give up some prep space, because the sink workstation is part of the prep area (not just a sink, e.g., the cutting board for example) and we like the built in colander accessory.

What do others say, do the workstations add value and can make up for less counter space for prep?

The 10" sink is too small. How large is your island?

@cheri127 It’s 7.5ft, however, we’re unable to reconfigure the layout. Sink will be installed towards the middle instead of at the end. We’re also considering not getting a sink workstation, and instead just an 18” sink.

It will have a pull down faucet, so filling large pots wont be a problem either way.

You have a separate cleanup sink; I’d not get a workstation prep sink. (Where would you put all of the pieces when not in use? And then I can just imagine having to sanitize them before working).

@emilyam819 I imagine most of the things would go in the base cabinet under the sink. And wont you always have to sanitize/clean your cutting board, collander before use?

I suppose. I’m lazy so I like to use/clean the smallest collanders, etc possible!

I will never judge anyone for wanting to avoid as much cleaning as possible.

We’ve marked out how large the first sink option is and it’s too large for what we need. Going to go with a smaller 17 or 18” sink and just use seperate cutting boards, collanders, etc., because as cool as the workstation appears to be, it doesn’t appear to provide additional function (e.g., you can just have a cutting board and colander extend over the sink, no real difference). I think also over time as these things wear, you eventually end up with that anyways.
