I like the dark blue but w/diff doors

Thank you!! Do you think a wood door would work in a different style and stain? I have a feeling my community will require a wood door.

I don't mind a wood door (make sure to use a good varnish if its real wood) but I just don't like the one in the picture

if going w/the blue, then get solid mahogany doors like this one. it's a nice warm red tone that looks gorgeous w/blues (or blacks)

or, maybe you could do one door w/sidelites? in black?

Notice how the grids on this door matches all the windows.

Thanks Beth! I really like the double doors with the arches! we have arched interior doorways so that would carry ththe outoutside to the inside nicely!

Agree with Beth that dark blue, white trim and a natural wood door is a great combination. My previous colonial was BM River Blue with ivory trim and a natural (unstained) mahogany door with a clear finish. It was striking!

I only have photos of the barn, which didn’t have mahogany doors. 😂. But it was also River Blue.

Have you driven through your community and looked at all the homes. What colors do you like the best? What colors are the houses around your home? If there is only one other blue house and it is directly across the street from your house I wouldn't do blue. If the houses on either side of me were white I wouldn't do white. If I lived in a warm climate I wouldn't do a dark siding.

I looked at your last post and see that the brick is not painted and has a lot of browns. The roof also looked browner in the other photos than in this photo. Internet can really alter colors so before answering I think we need to know the actual color of the roof and the brick and if you are planning on painting the brick or leaving it as it is.

I do agree that in it's current state the house is blah. The siding and the trim are too similar and don't showcase the beautiful window detail, but that doesn't mean we should ignore tans and browns that may be present, unless they will be changing. I am not a fan of painting brick, so I would need to start any design by deciding what I like with the brick.

I don't hate the current siding color on your home with your brick, but I really dislike the trim. Might want to go a bit less yellow

I only changed trim on my last home and it made a huge difference.

Maybe green trim would work well with the stone and provide the contrast to make the windows stand out.

You stated above that the community may require you to have a wood door. Does the community have any other color restrictions? Are you allowed to paint any color you want or do you need approval beyond their acceptable palettes?

Hi Jennifer! Thank you so much for the input and I agree with everything you said. Our neighborhood was traditionally different colors of brown and super neutral but over time people have started to change their homes. My neighbors on each side have changed their colors. One is a lovely dark gray with white trim and gray siding and on the other side, the house is a greige with white siding and a medium brown roof. Across the street is a lighter shade of gray with white trim. The combination of their homes is what sort of had me thinking about navy blue because I felt it would coordinate with those but not be too much the same. The true color of our roof is a really dark brown. I would describe our brick as barely white washed. I think the navy would look fine with the brick as is but I am open to changing it up a bit if we had to after the fact. Here is another view of the house from the back. We live on a very popular walking trail, so the back is also very viewable. We live in a planned community… they have to review and approve the design and there just seem to be things they are sticklers on… it’s possible we could change our door but every other door in the neighborhood is some shade of wood.

I should note that this photo is taken with the sun in full force during this time of the day and I actually think it makes the roof look lighter than it is in reality and from most angles

paint portions of the siding to see how it looks. only way you'll know.

You coul also opt to apply Romabio to the 'lightly washed' brick, and make it more even toned. (white, beige, gray, whatever you like. )

Try Hale navy for the blue

more painted brick in a lighter color. you could do Romabio tinted w/the SeaPearl, and then the Hale navy for the siding.

Personally I love dark, black siding w/neutral brick or stonework. pair it w/copper and natural wood accents. do a greige trim

Kendall Charcoal or a warmer, dark gray, is very pretty w/brick. pairs well w/the wood accent

Based on your information about the neighboring house colors, I think blue will make yours stand out even more. I love the dark grays Beth posted, but you don’t want to be part of a sea of gray homes.
