Before & After, increased small Master Bath size

We needed to add some square footage to a tiny master bath. Before dimensions 8'x6', After dimensions 8' x 8.6' The extra square footage made all the difference and now the bathroom feels much roomier. Used Rob Simkin Contractor (in Marin) and sourced materials from Home Depot, Online (vanity) Sincere Home (Oakland) and Restoration Hardware. Saved money buy buying most items on sale, or sourcing similar looking tile from a less expensive source. Hated the old bathroom, we love it now!

I like your color choices - they are very similar to what I did in my bathroom renovations, including the tile choices. I also put a similar mirror in my brother's bathroom, but much smaller. I updated my brother's vanity but not mine. I converted both tubs to walk-in showers because our real estate agent told us that no one takes baths in Palm Springs, and we have a spa in the patio if anyone wants a hot soak.

I guess you move the rug to the shower entrance before you take a shower, but where do you put the towel that you use when you get out?

I can see the advantage of not having a glass shower door, but I would be concerned that I would get cold in the shower with no door. I would want to have a robe or a towel very handy for when I got out. Do you have a separate heater for this bathroom?

@Lars I do have a towel bar which you can't see on the wall to the right of the vanity. I have since added 2 robe hooks on the left wall. I also put a small suction cup acrylic hook right on the shower glass to hang the towel while in the shower. Also the open shower door design does require a bathmat to catch the mist/droplets, so that is kept under the vanity. Becasue of the rain shower it is not cold. If I made any change, I would move the shower head over to the right 6 inch's to minimize the mist/droplets on the floor, but it drys fast. I love not having a door as they eventually need to be adjusted, or the plastic weather strips come off (like our other shower).

You are right about the shower door - mine now needs to be adjusted. My rain shower is not in the middle of the shower because the ceiling is vaulted and is about 11 feet high at the middle of the shower and is without attic space, but it is not close to the door at all. I guess I could remove the door, but I like the way it keeps the warmth inside the shower.

Being in the desert, the shower dries off extremely quickly, and I barely need a towel to dry off. My mirror never gets fogged at all.

My brother's mirror (which looks a bit like yours) has a built-in defogger, but he never needs to use it. I assume that yours has that feature as well.

I think your rain showerhead is in the right position - if you moved it to the right, it would do a less efficient job of keeping the shower warm.

Anyway, I love the look that you achieved. I think your taste is very similar to mine, and I don't see that that often.
