Is there an HOA for the neighborhod?Are you ’allowed’ to change shutter color to match? I think a medium to dark navy blue door and shutters would look great with the beige/khacki exterior.

Nylenore: I know you didn’t specifically ask about the shutters, but hubby and I (well, mostly him, I just did the staining) built our own wood shutters out of cedar; it was very simple, and it cost us about $120/pair, incl. some special order hammered black bolts. (Prices we found, had we ordered them ready-made, were at min. $500 and needed staining, or around $800, already stained.) This would give you the opportunity to have them sized correctly, as well…..yours look too narrow. I doubt your HOA would disapprove of this look. Now for the front door: you could either match the shutters with a nice wooden door, or choose a color. I’m with Patricia Colwell….I think a red would look pretty; not a bright, fire engine red, but a more “historic” color such as a deep barn red, with a bit of rust in it. SW Red Barn could be an option, or something similar. Below some examples of red and our own shutters.

I like the Black door, and a recent survey on Zillow showed that Black doors increase one’s home value more than any other color. That being said I think, cute as they are, the shutters should go. They are too small. Shutters were intended to cover the whole window, so you would need full window size shutters on either side.
