this is the normal type of connection for this case but if they failed to properly clean the scale off of the old pipe it has a chance to leak past the seal of the new fitting.

Thanks! I'll have them just clean the scale and fix the seal in the front. In the back they've just capped the line as shown ( and installed a new connection to the New sprinklers off the main love). I'm concerned that there's now no way to blow out this line in the winter ( we have heavy frosts). Should I have them cap closer to the stop and waste, closer to the original connection?

if this a dedicated irrigation line with a backflow assembly you should be able to blow the system at at that point.
