Curl and mildew aside: could be (rrd). Assuming that’s no optical illusion. Time will tell.

It doesn't have the extra thorniness I've read that is common with RDD so that's good. Did anything change in terms of unusual conditions like extra fertilizer recently? I wonder if that could account for the larger newer growth.

No that’s not RRD. Probably just summer stresss that the foliage is a bit small/malformed and stem is elongated.

New growth made during heat stress and from less than pencil thick feeder growth is often distorted/misshapen. I don't see strong evidence of RRV. It doesn't hurt to keep an eye on things, but try not to get paranoid about RRV like I tend do get! 🙄

Thank you all! Going to wait and see what happens with it. It’s a DA climber, first year. My neighborhood has many roses growing on sidewalks, some are taken care of by residents and some are not. Noticed lots of RRD around, so it’s hard not to be paranoid.

You are so right, but remember, worry changes nothing. If a rose turns up virused, just dispose of it following the prescribed protocols, and plant a new bush in its place.

Spray the bush's entire foliage thoroughly with fast drying acrylic spray paint, any color, let it dry for a couple hrs., dig it up, placing it into a large, thick garbage bag, then into household trash....that's what I would do to a positively confirmed Rose Rosette Virused bush.
