What style furniture do you have in the adjoining rooms? Transitional? Modern? Mid century?

I see your glass globe pendant in kitchen…you could go a bit mid century modern for lighting over table. Really coukd make a statement.

Kitchen pendants are black rope with chrome bezels (they didn't have brushed nickel). My faucet is standard chrome that came with new home) but I want to replace it with maybe brushed nickel. All the other lights are default that will be eventually replaced. I do like brushed nickel, black and some gold/bronze (not too much). Reason is my round mirror in the entryway has a brass/gold bezel.

My living room is not finished, pretty much empty except for my couch from west elm. Everything else in the living room will be replaced.

Btw, the living room photo was taken before new floors installed. Same ones you see in the dining room.

I would do black and brass mix…..add a black faucet in kitchen….I would pass on brushed nickel…so the sofa stays you have new light flooring..yellow will be removed correct? Yes go into a more modern organic direction it will flow nice from your kitchen…lots of texture…different neutrals and black and brass metals…

Hopefully I helped you out with some options. I think the pottery barn would look great!

For sure I'd choose a dining room fixture that plays up the handles on your kitchen cabinet hardware.

I think I'm between these 4 options or very similar to it. I do like the shaded lights gives a homie feeling but also modern. Thank you all for the light fixture suggestions.

I like what you posted but not clear glass. Too hard to keep clean. Here’s interesting one with a bit more brass for over your table. 33” long nice size.

If table will be extended to 86” like you mentioned you need a 56” long linear light for the proportions to be right..love this one…

Yes 9' ceilings. I'm not sure what you mean by junction box. The light fixture will just replace existing fixture - same position it's centered already

For a standard 8, ceiling you usually hang it around 32" from table to bottom of fixture for every addition 1' of ceiling you a 3"..so 35-36" from table top to bottom of fixture is good.

I was wondering if the spot where fixture hangs from ceiling (junction box) is centered over table. I would add to Julie’s info, it is somewhat dependent on the fixture selected. You want the bottom of fixture to be high enough so dinner guests can talk easily but low enough to frame view. Tables are generally 30” high so 30-36” above table generally works. Height of ceiling gives you how high you can go with fixture. For 9’ ceiling you probably want fixture to be 24-26” high at most. Each choice will determine specifics.

Thank you everyone! And thank you for the height recommendation. I went ahead and placed an order for this livex lighting. I do like the Rejuvenation Adeline light better but it was way above my budget for a light fixture. However they look very similar.

I would recommend changing the sheer curtains to linen texture or velvet curtains. It would look more sophisticated.

Thanks! I like the rug. I need to measure my table with the chairs pulled out and see if the rug size 8 x 11 would fit. You don't think it would look too dark in the space?

I would say no rug..too tight of a space…what is length and width of the table?

My table is extendable. It is 70" x  34.5" however I keep it extended to 86".  sometimes I reduce it's length and sometimes add an extra panel which goes beyond 86" to 102" or something close to that.

I'm not deep into your discussion, but with elegant chandelier a rug seems natural.

Well if extending from time to time you would need a huge rug..for your table at 86” no smaller than 8x10..what is the measurements of that area the table is in? if table was extended you need a 10x14 so your space needs to be no smaller than 12’x16’ to fit that size rug…

If this was a formal dining area a rug is nice but with this being open to kitchen I say no rug needed.

The light fixture came in and installed. Looks great. I'm still waiting on the chairs. They sent me only 2 chairs out of 6 by accident. Will snap another picture once all the chairs come in.

Ross, that's a lovely fixture and I've been looking at similar ones. Can you tell me if there are diffusers covering the bottom of the shades. Worried about glare. Also, what's your take on the quality of the shade? I'd be much obliged if you could take a close up of that. Thank you.

@TBL - shades are quality made and they offer different sized poles to customize the length properly. They do not come with diffusers which is a downside however they sell them on Etsy for $20 a piece for this size. If you do order, confirm that you are receiving the proper color of shades as they come in "oatmeal" and "off-white". I thought I ordered off-white based on description but it was actually oatmeal. Company sent me new shades as a replacement. Here is a close up

Quick update. Finally received the chairs from Pottery Barn. FYI the shipping service is pretty bad, got delayed a few times. Here is the dining room now. Corner bar is temporary (was a gift).

The room looks great - so restful! If you purchased the diffusers, could you provide a link to the Etsy site? I can't imagine how they'd stay in place. I'd love to see an evening shot with the lights on.
