Wonderful! I've never seen so many pods!

This species flowers early and over a fairly long period of time. In the years I've had it I've never used it for crosses either way for some reason -not enough room for seedlings I suspect is the main one- but I think I'll give it a go next year. Candidates include clausa var normalis since it also has a nice strong colour and probably 'Sea Octopus' for the same reason.

clausa var clausa will produce some pollen if you tear it open.

This is so cool one can get so many crosses on one plant. Is it possible to cross streakers to it and get something streaked?

you only get a streaker from a streaked mother. its not transferable thru dna

So new streakers come as seedlings not from crossings or tissue culture hosta_maker?

they can mutate in tissue culture also. its about tissue cells in the meristem at the center of the eye. its produced vegetatively. its not a transferable trait in dna like yellow or blue etc. its most common to get it from a streaked mother plant.

that was one of the first tells that paul aden didn't make his own seedlings. if he grew seedlings he would have known that variegation comes from the mother.

he wrote a book and it was never mentioned.

From this angle the opening seed pod looks almost alien....

Then such seedling can pollinate a streaker which will improve seed setting patter for next generations?

correct he could use that pollen on a streaker and give it some traits of the father.

there are many traits that do pass thru pollen. flower color, pet color, size, piecrusting on and on.
