I think the installers’ suggestion is the best good solution. With the new countertop ending at the door trim, it will look intentional for the backsplash tile to end at the trim as well.

Or should I move the light switch in so it falls under the cabinet.
My knowledge on things things is poor, so not sure if that’s even an option, let alone a better option?

I tend to align the end of the tile with the base cabinet edge, not the counter. I like the look of the counter overhang. Like this:

end with the same end of counter piece. period. to end any where else such as the edge of your upper cabinets would be just silly.

Backsplash and countertop can end at the door frame. The backsplash will need cutouts for the outlets.

It’s really personal preference. Wherever the light switch goes there will be backsplash there, so don’t bother moving it. If you want the counter to extend to the door trim, that’s fine. If you want the new counter to end where the existing counter ends, also fine.

Your choice for the backsplash is to have it end wherever the counter ends, or where the upper cabinets end.

If you want help visualizing it, use cardboard in the space where the backsplash would be, and tape it up, move it around, see what looks good to you.

I have a personal dislike of a backsplash that extends beyond the upper cabinets, but thats me. Does this look bad to you? I mean aside from the fact that the kitchen is a hard before.

I think what eam44 is describing is like this, with the backsplash in line with the upper cabinet. Then the countertop could end short of the wood door trim, like it is now or butt to the trim.

I like it either way! And now seeing it, I lean towards eam44’s suggestion. Oh wait, unless it stops weird before the light switch, then maybe take it to the trim.

Since the wood trim is so close to the cabinets, it does seem logical to end the countertop butting up against it. But I think whatever way you like the best for the tile to stop will look nice.

Why not put a wider molding on the door and leave it as is ?
