Bat turds? You have bats in the house?

I use a broom to move certain spiders, a housekeeping task that is pretty effective in relocation without killing them. Tsk tsk for not knowing that spiders are arachnids and not insects.

thats due east.. so it was early morning.. of course.. the dew told us that.. the real mystery is what thet hell i was doing out there 500 feet from my front door at that time of day.. lol ...

and do include spiders ... heres an ugly one.. luckly on the outside of the house.. she is free to be there... just not the pther side of the wall .. i have a labeled folder.. lets see if any of you can ID it... junkie????

I like spiders... outdoors! Actually, i usually let them live in my house too, as long as they aren't in my bedroom. Especially at night just before I'm going to bed.

Years ago we had a spider in the bathroom that my young kids were very nervous about. He was up in the corner of the ceiling, and he moved very fast. I told the kids his name was Speedy and over a few weeks they came to be less afraid and I think actually thought of him as a pet. I didn't want my kids to grow up to be one of those people who stomp on every bug they see!

Oh, the one spider I will absolutely not abide in my house is a wood spider. Being a city girl, the first time I saw one when I moved to what I thought at the time was the boondocks, I was horrified. I thought I was in some kind of horror movie. My neighnbor told me what they were. Ugh. Luckily (knock wood) I've only seen two in my house over 25 years, so thank goodness for that.

Yep, diggerdee, I am ok with spiders in general, but I do relocate when I find them inside. I either pick them up gently with a paper towel or try to get them to crawl on a piece of cardboard and put them in the garden.

hosta_maker the yellow garden spider is one of my favorites. They clearly have a style in web making as our webs are pretty much identical.

This is from last October. It was hanging from a roadside sign.

This isn’t a pretty one, but is the most common type I have. The web creates a funnel and the spider sits at the bottom of the funnel waiting for dinner to arrive. They show up best in the early morning when there is dew.

Checked back and the butterfly was gone. Spider’s web was broken and there was a hole. don’t know what happened to the body of poor butterfly

anyone know why .. various spiders make that zig zag pattern in the middle of the web??

wonder if a bird sniped the butterfly ... might indicate why web needs repair... unless the winged felon got spidey too???

I went back to check again. Spider looks very still and sad. I was wondering whether it was dead. So I touched it and it jumped up. I wish it will not abadon its web. Really a very pretty creature

I wondered the same thing years ago when the zig- zag pattern changed every few days on a web in my yard. The conclusion was the experts could only guess. Suggestions ranged from warning birds so they didn’t fly through the web, to luring prey, making the spider look bigger so it was not prey and even stabilizing the web. There’s even a name for it…stabilimentum.

ETA- Oh, and the reason it moved the pattern was so that escapees from the web wouldn’t ”learn” the danger spot. Not sure about that one.

Checked back and this yellow garden spider caught another prey. It could be a carpenter bee since a lot of them have been flying around
