So my wife bought this last fall, and I never planted it from its container and it sat laying on its side on the bare ground all winter. I noticed some green in the pot in the spring when I was cleaning up and decided to plant it. Can’t believe it lived - what a tough plant lol. here it is now.

Here it is in all its glory. I haven’t been gardening that long, but I know enough when something works out this well it’s best to appreciate it lol. May not ever look this good again

You are so lucky. I planted two last fall and both didn't make it. Zone 5 PA . Figuring it was too moist of a spot and our freeze thaw killed them. I plant two more two weeks ago in a different location in a well draining area and one already isn't looking good. It is wilting but i know isn't from lack of rain. Maybe I'll just buy two more and just dump them on their side. Lol.

Ha ha . Doing everything wrong is the key. Wife buys a couple each fall, I plant them and they always have died, hence me treating them like trash lol

i have had a lot of luck over the years with benign neglect... in fact.. i have a theory its much more effective than loving plant to death with over attention ...

they root in minutes.. and if it comes back next spring.. take a few cuttings.. and root them.. and have more plants for next fall.. if you need such ...

btw.. in my ground freeze mI ... ALL pots are laid on their sides for winter ..

you dont want water to accumulate in a pot that is frozen solid ... especially in march and april ... it roots get frozen into an ice cube.. they tend to rot ...

Ken; what kind of plants and what size pots are they that you lay on their sides.

L Clark, I say my plants may never look that good again ALL the time. After maybe 20 years of planting perennials, I am finally getting the right plants for my gardens. I can plant less and less annuals to fill in because the perennials are filling in on their own! I do have a few things like Caryopteris and Iris and Hibiscus that spread out rather dramatically. And believe it or not my Denver Daisy from last year reseeded on both sides of the sidewalk. Will miracles never cease! LOL I have a couple patches of mums that expand nicely too. Good luck with your gold one, You may be able to split it next year......
