Double play spiera

Does anybody have spiera in thier landscape? I noticed it looks amazing in spring all the way till june then starts going downhill, then ugly for me by this time of the year here in georgia(7b). Ive got about 10 of them so decided to try an experiment. At the end of august I decided to cut one down all the way to the ground just to see what it would do(like a reset cut). Check out the diffence! Although its a little extra work I will probaly do this to all of them next summer but do it earlier to maybe get flowers too. The first pic is what it looked like, 2nd is what it looks like now about 4-5 weeks later from a hard cut to the ground, 3rd pic is what it looked like in late may.
